Pitman’s Emily Galvin breaks Rowan record in 20-pound weight throw!!!!!!

Pitman graduate Emily Galvin broke the Rowan school record in the weight throw with a personal-best 55-3 ¾ over the weekend at the NYC Gotham Cup at Ocean Breeze. Galvin’s throw is No. 18 this year in NCAA Division 3.

Galvin broke the school record of 55-0 ¼ set last year by sophomore Makayla Taylor at a meet in Rochester, N.Y. Galvin’s previous best at Rowan was a 51-8 ½ at the Fastrack Season Opener at Ocean Breeze.

Galvin is a Rowan grad student who competed previously at Villanova, where she had a PR of 54-5 ¼ from last winter at the Rutgers Open at the Armory. That’s No. 4 in Villanova history.

Her specialty is the hammer, which she threw 185-3 last spring and placed 3rd in the Big East Championships in Storrs, Ct. That’s No. 2 in Villanova history. Rowan doesn’t list a women’s hammer throw record.

There is no hammer or weight throw in high school track, and Galvin’s best event at Pitman was the javelin. She was 7th in the jav at the state Group 1 meet as a senior.

Williamstown’s Mark Williams, a long jump newcomer, pops #8 jump in Gloucester County history!!!!!!

Williamstown senior Mark Williams, a 1st-year long jumper, soared 21-9 at the Rebel Shot/Jump Series #3 at the Bubble Tuesday evening.

That’s a school record, the No. 9 jump in New Jersey this year and No. 8 in Gloucester County indoor history.

Series information is not listed, unfortunately, but Williams won on a 2nd-best-jump tiebreaker with Mainland senior William Murray, who also jumped 21-9. That’s just off his PR of 21-10 ¼, set at the Bubble in February of last year. Murray jumped 21-10 at Ocean Breeze last month.

Williams broke the indoor school record of 21-0 set at the 2014 New Balance Games at the Armory by Raekwon Little-Martin.

Another Mainland jumper, Christopher Guillen, PR’d with a 20-6 ¼ to place 3rd and make it a 1-2-3 South Jersey sweep.

Also over 20 feet was Williamstown senior Anthony Lanteigne, a 6-4 high jumper who according to MileSplit had never previously long jumped in his life.

As for Williams, his previous PR was a 21-1 ¾ at the Collegeville (Pa.) Invitational at Ursinus’s Floy Lewis Baker Fieldhouse earlier this month. Williams competed in outdoor track the last two years but didn’t do any horizontal jumping, according to MileSplit’s database.

This appears to be only the third long jump competition of his life. He went 20-9 at a meet at the Armory last weekend.

Here’s a look at all the 21-foot indoor jumps in Gloucester County history:

Delsea junior Greg Masso uncorks best shot put throw in S.J. this year at Cherokee!!!!!!

Delsea junior Greg Masso popped three straight shot put PRs Tuesday night at the Cherokee Throw Down #2.

Masso came into the meet with an indoor shot put PR of 52-2 from the Cherokee Throw Down #1 two weeks ago. His outdoor PR is 52-8 ¼ from Group 2 sectionals last spring at Delsea, where the Crusaders swept the top three spots behind senior Jason Nwosu and Josh Caudill along with Masso.

On Tuesday, Masso opened with a near-indoor PR of 51-11 ½ before hitting 52-2 ¼, 53-5 and a huge finish with a 54-8.

The average of his four throws was 53-0 ½, beyond his previous indoor and lifetime personal bests.

Masso’s two-foot PR is the No. 1 throw in South Jersey this year, bumping Cinnaminson senior Malicah Etienne, who threw 54-2 last week at the state Group 2 relays at the Bubble. It’s No. 6 in the state this year and No. 2 among underclassmen.

He’s the seventh Delsea thrower to surpass 54 feet indoors. The list includes Josh Awotunde, who placed 3rd in the World Championships in Eugene in July.

62-0 ½ … Jason Nwosu, 2022
58-8 ¾ … Bill Goldsborough, 2018
57-8 ¼ … Josh Awotunde, 2013

55-4 ¾ … Ryan Knight, 1996
54-8 … Greg Masso, 2023
54-6 ½ … Josh Caudill, 2022

Glassboro junior Damere Lassiter also hit a big PR at Cherokee. Lassiter placed 2nd with a 51-5 ½ on his final throw. Lassiter’s previous PR was a 50-4 last week at Ocean Breeze, his first time over 50 feet.

Etienne placed 3rd with a 49-10 on his first attempt, and another Delsea thrower, junior Tyler Habersham-Agbemenu, hit a massive PR with a 47-11 ½ in just his 3rd lifetime meet. His previous PR was a 42-8 ¾ at the Bubble over the weekend.

Clearview’s Abigail Waddington runs 5th-fastest 3,200 in Gloucester County history and #2 in N.J.!!!!!!

Abigail Waddington ran the 2nd-fastest 3,200 in New Jersey this year Monday night at the SJTCA Winter Meet #9 at the Bubble in Toms River.

Waddington lowered her PR from 11:00.19 to 10:55.10 and won by 35 meters over Kingsway’s Aubrey Pierontoni, who ran 11:18.07. Her previous indoor PR was an 11:07.38 for the full two-miles last month at Ocean Breeze, which converts to 11:03.51.

The only faster 3,200 in New Jersey this year belongs to Columbia-bound Leanna Johnston of Immaculate Hear Academy of Washington Township, Bergen County, who ran a U.S. No. 8 10:32.72 at the Big North Championships last week at Ocean Breeze.

Waddington’s time is No. 6 in Gloucester County history indoors and No. 23 on the all-time South Jersey list.

Pierontoni, who missed all of last spring, raced at 3,200 meters for the first time since sectionals last spring. She has run 11:06.87 outdoors and 10:59.90 indoors. Kingsway’s Nicole Lipieta and Pierontoni finished together, Lipieta officially in 3rd in 11:18.12.

PRINCETON FRESHMAN GREG FOSTER FROM LUMBERTON POPS #1 JUMP IN U.S.!!!!!!!!

Princeton freshman Greg Foster, a Lumberton native who attended Lawrenceville School, popped the No. 3 long jump in NCAA Division 1 this year Saturday at the Wesley A. Brown Invitational at Navy’s Wesley A. Brown Fieldhouse in Annapolis, Md.

Foster only managed two legal jumps, but after two fouls, a pedestrian 24-3 ½ and two more fouls, he soared a lifetime-best 25-10 ¾ on his 6th and final attempt.

That was not only a PR but the winning jump. It moved him past Freddie Allen III of High Point (N.C.) – who led with a 24-6 ½ through five jumps.

Foster’s mark is No. 2 in Princeton history and best in 32 years. The indoor school record is 26-2 ¾ by Al Dyer in a meet at Princeton’s Jadwin Gym on Jan. 6, 1990.

https://goprincetontigers.com/sports/2012/5/10/205425834.aspx?id=706

In his only previous long jump for Princeton, Foster went 25-2 last month at the Joe Handleman Invitational at Jadwin. That was No. 4 in school history.

He’s only managed three legal jumps in two meets, but has registered two of the three-best performances of his life in a Tiger uniform.

Foster’s previous indoor PR was 25-4 ½, when he won Nike Indoor Nationals at Ocean Breeze last March. His previous overall PR was 25-6 ¼ when he won New Balance Outdoor Nationals in June at Franklin Field.

The only superior performances in Princeton history indoors or out belong to Dyer indoors and Ugwunna Ikpeowo, who jumped 26-0 ¼ at 1996 IC4As outdoors at George Mason in Fairfax, Va.

Foster’s mark is No. 1 in the U.S. so far this year and No. 3 in the world, behind Bozhidar Sarâboyukov of Bulgaria, who jumped 26-1 ¼ at the Akademik International meeting Asics Arena in Sofia, Bulgaria, earlier this month, and Thobias Montler of Sweden, who hit 26-1 at the Quality Hotel Games at Telekonsult Arena in Växjö, Sweden, this past weekend.

It also should be No. 38 on the all-time U.S. junior (under-20) list.

As far as I can tell, Foster’s jump is No. 5 ever by a South Jersey native – and No. 4 by a Burlington County native.

29-1 … Carl Lewis [Willingboro], Aug. 30, 1991, Tokyo
26-3 ¼ … Matt Rose [Bordentown], Mary 4, 1991, Knoxville, Tenn.
26-1 ¾ … Chris Gillis [Pennsauken], May 12, 2006, Waco, Texas
26-1 ¼ … Mike Morrison [Willingboro], May 13, 2006, Fayetteville, Ark.
25-10 ¾ … Greg Foster [Lumberton], Jan. 20, 2023, Annapolis, Md.
25-7 … Jerome Robinson [Bordentown], July 20, 1991, New York

Foster also ran a PR 7.93 for 2nd in the 60-meter hurdles in a photo finish with another Ivy League freshman, Penn’s Shane Gardner. That’s No. 4 in Princeton history. His previous PR was an 8.06 at the TCNJ Open at the Armory as well as in the trials on Saturday.

Highland’s Cortland Webb destroys 1,600 PR in big win at the Bubble!!!!!!

You’re not supposed to PR by 10 seconds in the mile, but that’s exactly what Highland junior Cortland Webb did Saturday.

Webb came into the SJTCA meet at the Bubble with a 1,600 PR of 4:35.81 from Haddonfield Distance Night this past May and an indoor PR of 4:37.82 from last year’s Group 3 sectionals at the Bubble.

Webb blew those PRs out of the water at the Bubble, winning the Winter Meet No. 8 in 4:24.55 and finishing 35 meters ahead of the field.

His time is No. 2 in South Jersey this year, behind Woodbury junior Peyton Shute’s 4:23.23 at Ocean Breeze earlier this week. It’s No. 8 in New Jersey and No. 4 among underclassmen.

It’s fastest by a Highland miler since Yarayah Hawkins ran a 4:23.33 full mile at Easterns in 2019, which converts to 4:21.80. Steve Maine [4:22.79 in 2014] and Ben Woodard [4:23.63 in 2018] have also run faster. Highland’s outdoor record is 4:14.4 hand-timed by Steve Mazur at 1992 sectionals at Bridgeton.

Senior Gavin Gallo gave Highland a 1-2 finish. Gallo ran 4:31.10, lowering his indoor PR from 4:37.99 at the Bubble last year and his lifetime best from 4:31.53 at last year’s outdoor Camden County Championships at Haddon Township.

Clearview senior Cavan Agatone made it three under 4:32 with a 3rd-place time of 4:31.34. He ran 4:23.68 last spring outdoors at the South Jersey Elite at Delsea but lowered his indoor PR from 4:31.65 earlier this month on a much faster track at Ocean Breeze.

Cinnaminson’s Derrick Robinson records N.J. #1 high jump at the Bubble!!!!!!

Cinnaminson junior Derrick Robinson soared over the bar at 6-6 in the SJTCA meet Saturday at the Bubble, the No. 1 mark in the state this year.

Robinson broke his PR of 6-4, which he just set two weeks ago at the Merli Invitational at the Bubble. Robinson had a PR of 5-10 just seven months ago before clearing 6-2 at the state Group 2 meet last spring at Franklin High School. He cleared 6-4 for the first time two weeks ago before his breakthrough performance Saturday.

Robinson already owned the Cinnaminson school record. It was previously shared by several jumpers who cleared 6-2. Outdoors, Max DiLeo cleared 6-8 at Group 2 states in 2011 at South Plainfield. DiLeo went on to play basketball for King Rice at Monmouth and also played professionally in Europe.

With his 6-6 clearance, Robinson equalled the No. 11 jump in Burlington County history. He’s the first Burlington County junior over 6-6 since Willingboro’s Nate Robertson in 2019.

Delsea’s Lillie Widmer destroys 1,600 PR at the Bubble!!!!!!

Delsea’s Lillie Widmer made her 2023 indoor debut a terrific one.

Widmer, a Delsea senior, ran a big 1,600 PR at the SJTCA Winter Meet No. 8 at the Bubble, winning in 5:10.03.

That’s No. 1 in South Jersey this year, bumping Clearview’s Abigail Waddington, who ran 5:11.51 at Ocean Breeze earlier this month. It’s also No. 8 in the state. Waddington was 2nd in 5:15.30, and Mainland sophomore Sofia Day ran 5:22.19 for 3rd.

Widmer’s previous 1,600 PR was a 5:15.55 last May at the South Jersey Open on her home track at Delsea. Her indoor PR was a 5:22.74 sophomore year at the Bubble.

Widmer’s time is No. 4 in Delsea history indoors, behind Celine Mazzi [4:54.58 in 2014], Felicia O’Donnell [5:02.83 in 2011] and former teammate Carly Nicholson [5:05.40 in 2021].

This was Widmer’s first race since the XC Meet of Champions in November, where she placed 17th with a 19:31 at Holmdel.

St. Augustine’s Sincere Rhea PRs in hurdles with all-time #3 time in Miami history!!!!!!

Sincere Rhea, a University of Miami junior from St. Augustine, raced to a 60-meter hurdles PR Friday at the Texas Tech Red Raider Open in Lubbock.

Rhea ran 7.73 for 3rd place in a race that saw the top three finishers all the run the same time. Clemson senior Giano Roberts ran 7.723, LSU freshman Matthew Sophia ran 7.724 and Rhea 7.727. So they finished within 4-1000ths of a second of each other.

Rhea’s previous PR came in February of 2020 as a Penn State freshman. He ran 7.76 in the trials of the Big 10 Championships at SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio, before a 7.82 for 3rd in the final. The 7.76 is No. 2 in Penn State history behind Guy Rose, a graduate of Wayne Hills High in Passaic County, who ran 7.69 at the 2001 Big Ten Championships in State College.

Rhea, a native of Maurice River Township, Cumberland County, ran 7.80 as a sophomore at Penn State when he won the 2021 Big East Championships in Geneva before transferring to Miami and sitting out last year’s entire indoor season.

He opened this year with a 7.92 last weekend at the Louisville Cardinal Classic, then ran 7.84 Friday in the trials before his 7.73 PR.

His time is No. 3 in Miami history, behind Devon Hill, who ran 7.55 to place 2nd at the 2012 NCAA Championships at Boise State’s track in Nampa, Idaho, and Artie Burns, who ran 7.68 at the 2014 Don Kirby Elite in Albuquerque.

So Rhea is No. 2 in Penn State history and No. 3 in Miami history! How many athletes are in the top five in their event at two major Division 1 programs?

He’s also now No. 6 in NCAA Division 1 so far this year and No. 8 in the world.

In first lifetime 800, Mainland’s Sofia Day smashes Atlantic County indoor record!!!!!!

It took Sofia Day one race to break the Atlantic County 800 record.

Day, a Mainland Regional sophomore, shattered the county record in her first lifetime attempt at 800 meters.

Day ran 2:17.76 to lead four girls under 2:20 at the SJTCA meet at Ocean Breeze. She broke the Atlantic County record of 2:18.10 set by Oakcrest’s Nijgia Snapp when she placed 3rd at the 2008 South Jersey Group 4 sectionals at the Bubble. Jill Smith of Southern won that race in 2:13.07, and Millville’s Brooke Kott was 2nd in 2:17.03.

Buena’s Katrina Sye owns the Atlantic County outdoor record with a hand-timed 2:09.2 at 1999 sectionals at Buena (then a South Jersey record), and Snapp ran 2:10.57 at the 2009 state Group 4 meet at Egg Harbor Township.

Day is coming off a terrific cross country season, where she won the Atlantic County title, placed 2nd at sectionals, 7th at states and then ran 19:22 at Holmdel to finish 11th at the Meet of Champions.

But the 800 is a far cry from 5,000 meters, and Day showed serious wheels in running the No. 2 time in the state this year. Julia Scrudato of Montgomery, who ran 4:54.69 for 1,600 meters last spring, ran 2:15.67 at Jadwin over the weekend.

Day sat back in 3rd place on a 34.0 first lap before taking the lead. She was out in 69.2 and came back in 68.5, closing in 33.3. Cherokee senior Kelsey Niglio placed 2nd in 2:18.39, Cherry Hill East senior Alexis Tepper ran 2:19.53 and Cherokee sophomore Megan Niglio 2:19.64.

Notably, Kingsway senior Aubrey Pierontoni, in her first race in seven months, ran 2:20.20 for 5th. Pierontoni last raced at the state Group 4 meet last spring. She ran 5:09.56 and 11:06.87 as a junior.
