Delsea’s Lillie Widmer made her 2023 indoor debut a terrific one.
Widmer, a Delsea senior, ran a big 1,600 PR at the SJTCA Winter Meet No. 8 at the Bubble, winning in 5:10.03.
That’s No. 1 in South Jersey this year, bumping Clearview’s Abigail Waddington, who ran 5:11.51 at Ocean Breeze earlier this month. It’s also No. 8 in the state. Waddington was 2nd in 5:15.30, and Mainland sophomore Sofia Day ran 5:22.19 for 3rd.
Widmer’s previous 1,600 PR was a 5:15.55 last May at the South Jersey Open on her home track at Delsea. Her indoor PR was a 5:22.74 sophomore year at the Bubble.
Widmer’s time is No. 4 in Delsea history indoors, behind Celine Mazzi [4:54.58 in 2014], Felicia O’Donnell [5:02.83 in 2011] and former teammate Carly Nicholson [5:05.40 in 2021].
This was Widmer’s first race since the XC Meet of Champions in November, where she placed 17th with a 19:31 at Holmdel.
