Pitman graduate Emily Galvin broke the Rowan school record in the weight throw with a personal-best 55-3 ¾ over the weekend at the NYC Gotham Cup at Ocean Breeze. Galvin’s throw is No. 18 this year in NCAA Division 3.
Galvin broke the school record of 55-0 ¼ set last year by sophomore Makayla Taylor at a meet in Rochester, N.Y. Galvin’s previous best at Rowan was a 51-8 ½ at the Fastrack Season Opener at Ocean Breeze.
Galvin is a Rowan grad student who competed previously at Villanova, where she had a PR of 54-5 ¼ from last winter at the Rutgers Open at the Armory. That’s No. 4 in Villanova history.
Her specialty is the hammer, which she threw 185-3 last spring and placed 3rd in the Big East Championships in Storrs, Ct. That’s No. 2 in Villanova history. Rowan doesn’t list a women’s hammer throw record.
There is no hammer or weight throw in high school track, and Galvin’s best event at Pitman was the javelin. She was 7th in the jav at the state Group 1 meet as a senior.
