Ocean City boys pack five runners in 13 seconds, tie record for lowest score in S.J. Group 3 history!!!!!

Juniors Anthony Conte and Luke Kramer ran 2-3 and led five Ocean City runners in the top seven, and the Raiders won their first boys sectional XC title in eight years Saturday at Delsea.

Ocean City outscored second-place Mainland Regional 23-49, tying the lowest score in Group 3 meet history. Highland was third with 63.

Those three schools accounted for 17 of the first 21 runners across the line in a 17-school field.

Kevin Antczak of Mainland was the overall winner, crossing the line on the Delsea track in 15:58, some 225 meters ahead of Conte.

The only runner to break up Ocean City’s five scorers was Highland sophomore Tom Raws, fourth in 16:44.

Senior Gavyn Fox, junior Max Kelly and sophomore Tyler Greene ran 16:44, 16:46 and 16:54 for fifth, sixth and seventh.

That’s a remarkable 13-second pack from one through five, including a five-second pack from one through four.

Ocean City’s 23 points tied the lowest score in South Jersey Group 3 sectional history set in 1989 by Highland in a 23-87 win over Eastern.

Ocean City’s previous titles came in 2004, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010, all in Group 3.

Rounding out the top 10 were Absegami senior Keishaun Joga (8th in 16:56), Highland senior Chris Corsaro (9th in 16:58) and Mainland senior Kyle Antczak (10th in 16:58).

For Mainland, Kevin Antczak became the Mustangs’ first sectional champion in 15 years, since Greg Hughes won the 2003 Group 4 race on the same course.

The only other Mainland winners over the years have been Geoff Wayton in 1993 and Bill Carroll in 1997, both in Group 3 at Kingsway.

The title is Haddonfield’s ninth in a row, 14th in the last 16 seasons and state-record 26th overall.

Junior Martin Riddell won his second straight individual title and led five Haddonfield runners in the top seven, and Haddonfield won its 15th consecutive sectional XC title and state-record 36th title overall Saturday, outscoring second-place Delsea 20-86 on Delsea’s flat 5,000-meter course in Franklinville.

The title is Haddonfield’s 24th in the last 25 years. It’s the 37th consecutive year Haddonfield has placed in the top three.

Riddell ran 15:54 to edge Delsea senior Colin Kane, who was second in 15:58. Haddonfield took the next three spots, with seniors Greg Eisenhower (16:00) Derek Gess (16:13) and Griffin Weiner (16:21), and junior Stephen Kasko placed seventh in 16:35.

That’s a 41-second pack for the Bulldogs’ five scorers. Senior Sean Campiglia (11th in 16:47) and senior Ethan Spellmeyer (16th in 17;13) gave Haddonfield seven runner in the top 16.

Scoring against the entire field, Haddonfield would have won 20-36. Scoring without its first two runners, Haddonfield would have won 27-77.

Kingsway girls win 4th straight S.J. Group 4 title, Shawnee’s Isabella Turner returns to win second straight individual crown

Senior Lauren Krott, sophomore Ashlynne Burke and junior Emily Pierontoni all finished in the top 10 to lead the Kingsway girls to their ninth sectional XC title and fourth in a row.

Krott placed fourth in 19:25, Burke sixth in 19:28 and Pierontoni ninth in 19:39 and Kingsway rolled to a 56-96 win over Shawnee in the girls Group 4 race at Delsea.

Junior Allie Pierontoni and freshman Allison MacFarland also scored for Kingsway, placing 15th and 22nd in 19:59 and 20:15. That’s a 50-second gap for the Dragons, with sixth and seventh runners Kennedy Waterson and Caroline Heino, both juniors, not far back in 20:23 and 20:32 in 26th and 30th.

Kingsway won five S.J. Group 2 titles from 1987 through 1992, then went 24 years without a sectional title before starting its current streak in 2015.

Shawnee senior Isabella Turner, in her first race in more than a month, won the individual title in 18:39 and became the first Shawnee girl since Liz Moore from 1992 through 1994 to win back-to-back sectional XC titles.

Turner missed several weeks of training with a stress fracture. This was her first race since she won the South Jersey Open on Sept. 29.

Others in the top 10 included Cherokee junior Kate Rathman (2nd in 18:58), Cherry Hill East senior Sarah Pierce (3rd in 19:23), Cherokee freshman Nicole Clifford (5th in 19:28), Egg Harbor junior Olivia Shafer (7th in 19:29), Clearview sophomore Katherine Byrne (8th in 19:31) and Toms River North sophomore Meagan Mahon (10th in 19:41).

Haddon Twp. boys celebrates 50th anniversary of their first XC title with their 19th!!!!!

Junior Jake Aylmer, freshman Luke Overbeck and senior Liam Duffy all finished in the top 10 to lead Haddon Township to a 40-76 win over Pitman in the South Jersey Group 1 XC Championships at Delsea.

Haddon Township won its 19th sectional XC title on the 50th anniversary of the Hawks winning their first.

Aylmer ran 16:59 to place fourth and Overbeck and Duffy ran seventh and eighth in 17:15 and 17:18.

Township sophomore Matt Conway was 11th in 17:42 and senior Josh Potter 14th in 18:12, with senior Noah Dinnerman also in the top 20, taking 18:22 for 17th as the Hawks’ sixth man.

The title is Haddon Township’s ninth in the last 11 years, 11th in Group 1 and first since 2015.

The Hawks won Group 3 in 1968, Group 2 in 1970, 1971, 1972, 1975, 1976, 1985 and 1986 and Group 1 in 1988, 1996, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015.

Pitman junior Sebastien Reed ran 16:16 to easily win his second consecutive title and third straight for Pitman, following Andrew Caccia in 2016.

Also in the top 10 were Pennsville junior Dan Wyshinski (16:41) and Audubon sophomore Zachary Williams (16:54) in second and third, Woodstown junior Xavier Seals (17:01) and Cape May County Tech senior Leo Zaccaria (17:14) in fifth and sixth, Schalick junior Jonathan Miller in ninth (17:33) and Maple Shade junior Sean Reed in 10th (17:41).

Kingsway boys pack five in 26 seconds and roar to repeat win in S.J. Group 4 sectionals!!!!!

Kingsway overcame a 1-2 Cherokee finish to roll to a 43-73 win in the South Jersey Group 4 championships Saturday morning, the Dragons’ second straight team title.

Kingsway packed its five scorers in the top 14, with just 26 seconds separating one through five on the flat 5,000-meter Delsea Regional course in Franklinville.

Senior Daniel Reynolds (5th in 16:10), senior Kieran Burns (6th in 16:11), senior Gavin Wagner (8th in 16:19), junior Stone Caraccio (10th in 16:29) and senior Stephen Wilkins III (14th in 16:36) were backed up by junior Ayden Magee in 15th (16:38), with freshman Kyle Rakitis not far back (23rd in 16:45).

The title was Kingsway’s fifth overall, following Group 3 wins in 2006, 2001 and 2012 and Group 4 last year.

Juniors Ethan Wechsler and Chase Miller went 1-2 for Cherokee, but the Chiefs didn’t have anybody else in the top 20, although they had four between 21 and 26.

Kingsway finished with a 43-73 margin of victory, followed by Cherry Hill East (103), Lenape (149) and Toms River North fifth (152).

Wechsler and Miller became the first teammates to go 1-2 in the South Jersey Group 4 boys race since 2007, when Cherokee seniors Alex Yersak and Kevin Schickling ran 16:01 and 16:08 to go 1-2 on the same course.

The last time two underclassmen from the same team went 1-2 in the S.J.-4 race was 1994, when Jay Wassell and Nick Noguer of Highland did it racing at Kingsway.

Junior Oliver Adler of Cherry Hill East placed third in 16:09. Also in the top 10 were Toms River North senior Javid Ridgeway (16:09), Clearview soph Anas Bensaoud (16:14) and Egg Harbor senior Gobi Thurairajah (16:25).

Cumberland Regional’s Sara Loew rolls to huge win for Camden CC at NJCAA Region 19 XC Championships!!!!!

Sara Loew of Cumberland Regional and now a freshman at Camden County College in Blackwood rolled to a huge win at the NJCAA Region 19 Division 3 women’s cross country championships.

Loew ran 21:06 to beat second-place Pitman graduate Lyndsay Boyd of Gloucester County College via Pitman by 275 meters over the 5,000-meter course at White Clay Creek State Park in New Castle County, Delaware.

Loew, the Cumberland County Meet runner-up last fall, had never won a major individual title in high school.

Camden County College won the team title 30-54 over Bergen County College of Paramus.

Camden County placed its five scorers in the top 15 (and top 11 for scoring purposes). Also racing for the Cougars were Autumn Baldini of Triton, Betzabel A. Delos Santos Trinidad of Collingswood, Nicole Mattern of Highland and Emily Santana of Cherry Hill West, who placed 4th, 6th, 8th and 11th.

Rowan College Gloucester County placed third with 75 points, led by Boyd.

Next for Loew and the Cougars is the NJCAA Division 3 national championships at Holyoke Community College in Westfield, Conn., on Nov. 10.

Moorestown’s Cooper wins 3rd straight NJAC XC title, Delran’s Tattory third, and TCNJ wins 28th team championship!!!!!

Moorestown graduate Natalie Cooper won her third straight NJAC individual cross country championship and led a College of New Jersey sweep of the top four places on the way to the team title.

Cooper, a TCNJ senior, became only the second woman to win three straight New Jersey Athletic Conference individual titles when she ran 22:47 over 6,000 meters at Dream Park in Logan Township.

The only other three-time winner was Beth Vesey of TCNJ, who won in 2001, 2002 and 2003.

TCNJ outscored second-place Rowan 20-55. It was TCNJ’s third straight team title, fifth in six years and 28th in 34 years, including eight titles from 1985 through 1995 when the Ewing Township school was known as Trenton State.

Seniors Erin Holzbauer of Robbinsville [23:19] and Madeleine Tattory of Delran [23:28] and sophomore Gabriella DeVito from Monmouth Regional [23:33] finished second through fourth overall, and TCNJ’s fifth scorer was freshman Emily Prendergast of Pascack Hills, who was 10th in 24:15.

“The goal was to come in and work on running as a pack for at least 2, 3K and then push from there,” TCNJ coach Justin Lindsey said. “They executed it well. Natalie really showed her dominance and to win three years in a row is something special.”

Freshman Kelsey Kobus out of West Windsor-Plainsboro South and junior Hannah Fay of Hunterdon Central didn’t score but did earn second-team all-conference status, placing 12th and 14th in 24:23 and 24:32.

TCNJ will race in the NCAA Division 3 Atlantic Regional Championships on Nov. 10 on the same course.

TCNJ is not nationally ranked in the Division 3 top 35 but has the most votes among “others receiving votes”

South Jersey high school grads took six of the first nine spots, including the top two freshmen — Cinnaminson’s Madison Edwards and Seneca’s Carley Tool, both from Rowan.

Here’s a look at all the South Jersey alums who finished in the top 25:

1. Natalie Cooper [Moorestown, TCNJ], 22:47
3. Madeleine Tattory [Delran, TCNJ], 23:28
6. Alexis Jones [Gloucester Twp. Tech, Rutgers-Camden], 23:49
7. Madison Edwards [Cinnaminson, Rowan], 23:57
8. Hannah Vendetta [Pitman, Rowan], 24:03
9. Carley Tool [Seneca, Rowan], 24:04

Cherokee’s Nick Falk leads tight TCNJ pack to one-point thriller over Rowan in NJAC XC championships!!!

Former Cherokee runner Nick Falk placed third overall and The College of New Jersey men’s XC team overcame a 1-2 Rowan finish to edge the Profs by one point to win the 2018 New Jersey Athletic Conference title.

It was TCNJ’s 29th conference title.

Rowan won last year’s team title, ending a streak of 23 straight for TCNJ (the first two as Trenton State). So TCNJ has now won 24 of the last 25. The Lions also won in 1965, 1967, 1968, 1969 and 1991.

Senior Daniel “Fitch” Henry of Clearview and freshman Cyril Harvey went 1-2 for Rowan in 26:10 and 26:13 over 8,000 meters on a cold, windy day at Dream Park in Logan Township, Gloucester County.

But led by Falk, six of the next 10 finishers were from TCNJ and the Lions finished with a 40-41 margin of victory over Rowan.

Falk ran 26:34, with soph Pelle Nogueira seventh in 26:57 and then four straight TCNJ finishers from ninth through 12th – freshman William Mayhew of Delsea, sophomore Robert Abrams from Cherry Hill West and seniors Quinn Wasko and Luke Prothero, all between 27:00 and 27:13.

That’s a 39-second gap from Falk to Wasko.

Rowan led 8-19 after three runners and 21-29 after four. But TCNJ packed all seven of its runners in front of Rowan’s fifth runner, which made the difference.

Even though Prothero and sophomore Matt Kole (18th in 27:22) didn’t score, they did bump Rowan’s fifth runner, giving the Lions the team title.

Ramapo had three of the top eight finishers and finished third with 47 points, which makes three teams within seven points.

Rowan also had junior Matt Russo in the top 10 (5th in 26:48).

Kingsway girls score a perfect 15 to win Gloucester County Championships, then add Tri-County title to their resume!!!

The Kingsway girls threw a perfect game in the Gloucester County Championships, sweeping the top five spots for a perfect 15 points.

The team title is the 13th for Kingsway and fourth in a row.

Sophomore Ashlynne Burke led the way, running 19:06 on the 5,000-meter course at West Deptford Park. Senior Lauren Krott took second in 19:25, and sophomore Sydney Watts was also well under 20 minutes, crossing the line in 19:35 for third.

Twins Allie and Emily Pierontoni placed fourth and fifth in 20:01 and 20:04.

Kingsway also scored 15 points last year and did it again this year without the top two runners from last year.

But the Lady Dragons actually ran better this year, if that’s possible. They went 1-2-3-4-5-10-14 last year but 1-2-3-4-5-7-10 this year, with freshman Allison MacFarland seventh in 20:23 and junior Kennedy Waterson 10th in 21:08.

Even if Kingsway had rested its top two runners, they still would have scored just 18 points.

Williamstown packed its five runners from 10th to 18th to outscore Washington Township 65-73 for second place.

The last school other than Kingsway to win the Gloucester County title is Clearview in 2014. Kingsway’s previous titles came in 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1999 and 2012.

Kingsway came back to win the Tri-County Championships on Wednesday, outscoring Pitman 27-73.

Krott was the overall winner in 18:50, with Burke fourth in 19:14, Watts sixth in 19:29, Allie Pierontoni seventh in 19:51 and MacFarland ninth in 20:02. The race was at Cumberland Regional.

Pitman senior Briana Hagerty [2nd in 19:04], Schalick sophomore Juia Smith [3rd in 19:04], Delsea sophomore Carly Nicholson [5th in 19:25], Clearview sophomore Katherine Byrne [8th in 19:59] and Clearview junior Hailey Tabar [10th in 20:16] rounded out the top 10.
