Mainland Regional’s Sofia Day, now at College of Charleston after spending last year at Vanderbilt, ran 22:23 in her first collegiate 6,000 Friday in Boone, N.C.
Day placed 25th out of over 100 runners in the Fire Tower Project at State Farm Fields and was Charleston’s 3rd finisher.
Day didn’t run XC at Vanderbilt, so she should have freshman XC eligibility although she’s listed as a sophomore. Day ran 2:10.51 last spring at Vandy in a home meet in Nashville on May 1 but did not race again.
She resurfaced at Charleston and in her first collegiate XC meet last month ran 18:10 and placed 3rd in a meet in North Charleston, S.C., before an 18:27 in Huntsville, Ala. So this appears to be her first race ever longer than 5K.
Next for the Cougars is the Upstate Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C., on Oct. 17.
