Williamstown’s Sophia Aldridge, now a freshman at North Florida, had a big race Friday with a 7th-place finish out of more than 150 runners at the Georgia Tech Invitational in her first-ever 6,000-meter race.
Aldridge ran 21:34 at Fox Hall Sporting Club in Douglasville, Ga., and was the Ospreys’ second finisher. That’s sub-18 minute pace for 5,000 meters plus another 1,000. So she went through 5,000 meters faster than her previous-fastest collegiate 5K, which was 18:27 last month in Charlotte, N.C.
North Florida went 4-6-7-11-14 and finished 2nd out of 16 schools, 25-42, behind only Georgia Tech.
