SUNY Geneseo freshman Milo Poerner from Cherry Hill East placed 9th out of nearly 150 runners Friday in the Kara Hall Memorial Invitational in Fredonia, N.Y.
Poerner ran 26:32 over 6,000 meters and was the 3rd finisher for Geneseo, who ranks 2nd in NCAA Division 3, behind only Wisconsin-La Crosse. Geneseo went 5-8-9-10-11-(13-19) for 43 points, beating 2nd-place Ithaca 43-78.
Poerner ran his 6K PR of 26:14 last month in a meet in Rochester. His 3,200 PR in high school was 9:24.20, and he placed 4th last year in the state Group 4 meet at Holmdel with a 16:27 before running 16:10 for 20th at the Meet of Champions. That’s 4th-fastest ever by a Cherry Hill East runner at Holmdel.
Geneseo is located 35 miles south of Rochester and 50 miles west of Penn Yan. Geneseo placed 2nd at Division 3 Nationals in 2016 and again last year.
Next for Geneseo is the Mike Woods Invitational at Letchworth State Park in Livingston County, N.Y., on Oct. 16.
