Cumberland Regional’s Richard Pierce wins Woodbury with top Cumberland County javelin throw in 12 years!!!!!!!!

Cumberland Regional senior Richard Pierce recorded the longest javelin throw by a Cumberland County thrower in 12 years Friday at the Woodbury Relays.

Pierce won the javelin with a 177-7 on his 4th throw, one of four throws he had over 170 feet. It’s the best throw by a Cumberland County athlete since Kelvin Tull of Millville threw 178-7 at the 2014 South Jersey Open at Buena. The last Cumberland County thrower to hit 180 feet is another Pierce from Cumberland Regional, Andrew Pierce, who threw 191-5 at the 2009 Meet of Champions in South Plainfield.

Richard Pierce’s previous PR was 172-9 from last year’s state Group 3 meet, also at South Plainfield. He beat that three times Friday with a 173-4 on his 1st throw, 174-3 on his 3rd and the 177-7 on his 5th. He finished with a 172-4.

Senior Kaden Roane of Deptford placed 2nd with a 171-5, so Pierce had the four-best throws of the competition.

Pierce’s 177-7 is No. 7 in New Jersey this year and the best throw by a South Jersey athlete. Roane is 2nd at 171-5, and Williamstown senior Wayne Farmer is 3rd with his 167-3 at Woodbury.
