Senior Nicholas Krol and sophomore Dylan Saber finished in the top 10 and the Williamstown boys won their first 9th Gloucester County cross country title but first in 27 years Friday afternoon at West Deptford Park.

Krol ran 16:25 and placed second to Peyton Shute of Woodbury, who ran 15:44, and Saber ran 16:55 for 6th place.

The Braves packed their five scorers in 76 seconds and topped Washington Township by two points, 46-48, to win their first county title since the 1995 team defeated Clearview 54-83 at Kingsway. That team was led by Geoff Valentine in 5th and Ed Douglas in 7th.

Williamstown also won Gloucester County team titles in 1970, 1972, 1973, 1976, 1977, 1978 and 1983.

On Friday, Williamstown senior Brad Aidan, senior Walker Cristinziani and freshman Dominic Burgio clinched the team title by placing 12th, 13th and 14th in 17:29, 17:31 and 17:41. It was the first lifetime 5,000-meter championship race for Burgio.

Washington Township was led by sophomore Hunter Bostwick, who ran 16:38 for 4th place, senior Colin Keane, who was 7th in 17:06, junior Alan Kolosowsky and senior Tellus McDonald, who crossed the line 9th and 10th in 17:12 and 17:17, and junior Patrick Lant, 18th in 18:10.

Shute’s official time of 15:44.78 just missed the course record of 15:44.24 set last year at the Gloucester County meet by Kingsway’s Kyle Rakitis, when he edged Shute, who ran 15:51.

Also in the top 10 Friday were Woodbury senior Michael Torelli [3rd in 16:33], Clearview senior Cavan Agatone [6th in 17:03] and Kingsway senior Cesar Pedro [8th in 17:06].

This was the second straight very tight team finish. Washington Township edged Kingsway 45-46 last year, ending the Dragons’ streak of nine straight team titles.

Kingsway grad Kylie Anicic, a junior at Edinboro, ran a 6,000-meter PR Saturday in Illinois.

Anicic ran 21:09 and placed 2nd among nearly 200 runners at the Lewis Crossover at the Lewis Cross Country Course in Romeoville, Ill.

Anicic finished behind only NCAA Division 2 All-America Lindsay Cunningham of Winona (Minn.) State, a 16:06 5,000 runner on the track last year. Cunningham ran 20:50.

Anicic’s previous 6,000 PR was a 21:43 while competing for Towson (Md.) at the 2019 Colonial Athletic Conference Championships in at New Market (Va.) Battlefield.

Edinboro, ranked No. 5 in the NCAA Division 2 Atlantic Region, competes Oct. 22 at the Warrior Challenge at Willow Metropark in New Boston, Mich., outside Detroit.

Seniors Alex Boyko and Matt McCarron recorded their 2nd straight 1-2 finish in a major invitational and led Cinnaminson to a 41-point win in Division 2 at the South Jersey Open Saturday.

Boyko and McCarron, who went 1-2 in the Group D race last weekend at the Shore Coaches Invitational, led a 1-2-5-8-12 Pirate finish for a 28-69 win over Moorestown.

Boyko ran an all-course PR 15:43 over the 5,000-meter course and McCarron 16:09, also an all-course 5K lifetime best. Also for Cinnaminson, senior Patrick Storti was 7th in 16:53, senior Dean Clark 10th in 17:19 in his first major race of the fall and senior Ryan Coceano 14th in 17:44.

Seniors Colin Shand and William Inglis led Moorestown, Shand in 6th in 16:52 and Inglis in 9th in 17:19.

Also in the top 10 were Collingswood junior Elijah Forrest [3rd in 16:26], Triton junior Ethan Wence [4th in 16:44] and Woodbury senior Michael Torelli [5th in 16:51].

Also notable: Moorestown freshman Peter Simpson ran 17:23 and was the Quakers’ No. 3 runner. That’s fastest by any South Jersey freshman this fall on any 5,000-meter course.

Senior George Andrus won the Varsity G race at the Manhattan Invitational Saturday and led Haddonfield to the team title.

Andrus finished 100 meters ahead of the field, covering the legendary 2 ½-mile course at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx in 12:48 and beating 2nd-place Alex Schimmel of St. Peter’s Prep by 20 seconds.

Haddonfield, ranked No. 4 in the state, won a close team battle with No. 17 St. Peter’s Prep, outscoring the Jersey City school 50-54.

The Bulldogs averaged 13:37 and had a 75-second spread between their 1st and 5th runners. St. Peter’s averaged 13:42 and had a 67-second gap.

Seniors Rob Dimedio and Ian Romea both also placed in the top 10, Dimedio 6th in 13:30 and Romea 9th in 13:47. Senior Donald Jellig ran 13:57 for 16th and junior Matthew Sullivan was 22nd in 14:04.

They were backed up by freshmen Ryan Gibson [24th in 14:08] and Luke Andresen [34th in 14:25].

St. Peter’s led Haddonfield 28-30 after four runners crossed, but Sullivan and Gibson both finished ahead of St. Peter’s fifth runner.

In a merge of the 1,260 runners and 15 teams who competed in seven boys races, Andrus posted the 16th-fastest time and Haddonfield finished with the 15th-lowest team score. Andrus’s time was 4th-fastest among New Jersey runners and fastest among South Jersey competitors.

Northern Burlington sophomore Liliah Gordon, Paul VI junior Shaelan McNally and Mainland Regional sophomore Sofia Day ran three of the fastest times at the Manhattan Invitational Saturday.

Gordon, McNally and Day all ran between 15:10 and 15:17 over the hilly 2 ½-mile course at historic Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.

McNally won the Varsity B race in 15:11, finishing half a meter ahead of 2nd-place Tsadia Bercuvitz, an 8th-grader who competes for Ithaca (N.Y.) High School. In New York State, 7th- and 8th-graders are permitted to compete for the high school in their district.

Day ran 15:17 and placed 4th in the Varsity C race, with junior teammate Gillian Lovett 11 seconds back in 6th place.

Gordon ran 15:10 to lead all South Jersey runners. She was 12th in the Eastern States Championship race.

Gordon, McNally and Day were New Jersey’s three-fastest runners in the various races Saturday.

Their times ranked 15th, 16th and 22nd out of 1,157 runners in a merge of the seven girls races.

Mainland, ranked 17th in New Jersey, placed 2nd in the Varsity C race on a 6th-runner tiebreaker with Padua Academy of Wilmington, Del. Both finished with 88 points.

Joining Day and Lovett in Mainland’s scoring group were junior Claudia Booth, junior Chloe Malone and sophomore Ava McDole, who finished together – Booth 28th in 17:15, Malone 29th in 17:17 and McDole 30th in 17:18.

The Haddonfield girls mixed it up with some of the top XC programs in the country Saturday and emerged with 3rd place in the Eastern States Championships race at the Manhattan Invitational.

Junior Riley Slootsky, senior Helene Usher, freshman Riley Austin, junior Ava Thomas and junior Audrey Naticchia averaged 15:42 over the challenging and historic 2 ½-mile course at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx and wound up 3rd among 148 schools in a merge of the six girls races.

Haddonfield scored 161 points, finishing behind only Assumption High of Louisville [116] and Bethlehem Central [130].

Haddonfield, ranked No. 2 in New Jersey behind Union Catholic, packed its five scorers in a remarkable 35-second spread.

Slootsky placed 27th in 15:27, Usher 32nd in 15:37, Austin 34th in 15:43, Thomas 35th in 15:44 and Naticchia 48th in 16:02.

Sophomore Ethan Buck, Ocean City’s 5th runner, beat the 5th runner from Champlain Valley Union by 20 places to help the Red Raiders squeak out a three-point win in the Varsity B race Saturday at the Manhattan Invitational.

Through four runners, Champlain Valley Union of Hinesburg, Vt., led Ocean City by a whopping 17 points at 51-68. But Buck ran 14:14 over the historic 2 ½-mile course at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx and beat Champlain Valley Union’s fifth runner by 20 seconds, providing the winning margin in a 98-101 triumph.

Senior Nick Scarangelli led the way for the Raiders in 6th place with a time of 13:04, and junior Matt Hoffman was 11th in 13:32. Seniors Chris Sardy and Colin Abbott finished nearly together in 27th and 28th in 14:08 and 14:11, and Buck was just three seconds behind.

Junior Julia Brock, sophomore Noelia Reyes and sophomore Sarah Brown finished 6th, 10th and 15th, and the Moorestown girls won a wild three-way battle with Sterling and Haddon Heights in the Division 2 race Saturday at the South Jersey Open at DREAM Park in Logan Township.

Moorestown, Sterling and Haddon Heights all finished within four points of one another, Moorestown with 63, Sterling 66 and Haddon Heights 67.

Brock ran 20:13, Reyes 20:36 and Brown 21:22 to lead the Quakers, and Moorestown placed its four other runners between 20th and 25th. Junior Paige McCabe and sophomore Lila Dionis placed 20th and 22nd in 21:47 and 21:55 to round out the Quakers’ scoring group, and they were followed closely by sophomore Jane Goettle [23rd in 22:03] and sophomore Gabrielle DeJoseph [25th in 22:12], giving Moorestown seven runners between 6th and 25th.

Sterling was led by junior Cara Coppolino [5th in 20:09] and sophomore Jonalee Adams [7th in 20:15], and Heights by senior Ava Severino [2nd in 19:40], sophomore Grace Duffy [4th in 20:01] and senior Catey Gandolfo-Lucia [9th in 20:26].

Cinnaminson senior Stephanie Renouf won the race in 19:17, fastest ever by a cinnaminson girl at DREAM Park and 7th-fastest by a Burlington County girl. Renouf ran 19:31 last fall at Group 2 sectionals.

Also in the top 10 was Delsea sophomore Juliana Sieminski, who ran 20:19 and placed 8th.

Led by junior Raine Guidarelli, Cherry Hill East packed its five scorers in a remarkable 19 seconds to win the Division 3 team title Saturday at the South Jersey Open.

Guidarelli covered the 5,000-meter DREAM Park course in Logan Township in 16:42, placing 4th overall.

Senior Peter Tepper [5th in 16:44], senior Christopher Korneyev [7th in 16:52], senior Grant Yoon [8th in 16:54] and sophomore Nikhil Raman [10th in 17:01] also scored for the Cougars, who finished with a 34-87 win over Cherokee, which rested its top group. Cherokee won a 6th-runner tiebreaker with Washington Township for 2nd place.

Cherry Hill East’s five scorers averaged 16:51 and were backed up by sophomore Brady Bogos [15th in 17:24] and senior Daniel Farling [17th in 17:27], giving East seven runners in 45 seconds.

Rancocas Valley senior Ryan Smith picked up his second straight invitational win, beating the field by 80 meters.

Smith ran 16:15, finishing 17 seconds ahead of 2nd-place Washington Township sophomore Hunter Bostwick, who ran 16:32.

Smith ran 1st last weekend at the Ray Hoagland Invitational. He hasn’t lost to a South Jersey runner at 5,000 meters in four major invitationals so far this fall.

Others in the top 10 included Clearview Cavan Agatone [3rd in 16:40], Toms River East’s Ryan Macom [6th in 16:45] and Washington Township Aaron Kolosowsky [9th in 16:56].

Clearview, New Jersey’s 3rd-ranked team, showed its speed and depth Saturday morning, packing six runners in the top 10 in the Division 3 race at the South Jersey Open.

The Pioneers’ five scorers averaged 19:33 on the 5,000-meter DREAM Park course in Logan Township near Glassboro.

Senior Abigail Waddington won the race in 18:36 to lead Clearview to what looks something like a 25-82 team triumph over Southern Regional. Washington Township was 3rd with 87 and Cherry Hill East 4th with 88.

Clearview went 1-4-5-6-9-(10), and would have outscored the entire field 25-30.

Cherry Hill East senior Alexis Tepper broke 19 minutes and placed 2nd in 18:54, and Toms River North freshman Jessica Abbott was 3rd in 19:05, but then it was all Clearview with senior Abigail Kotran and juniors Margaret Wisniewski and Alison Roes finishing 4th, 5th and 6th in 19:06, 19:38 and 19:52.

Clearview’s 5th and 6th runners, senior Aubrey Donahue and sophomore Lilla Porter, both ran 20:22 and placed 9th and 10th.

Also in the top 10 were Washington Township teammates senior Allyson Wernik [7th in 20:00] and sophomore Kaylee Russen [8th in 20:16].
