Highland sophomore Floyd Whitaker moved into the all-time South Jersey triple jump top-10 Thursday evening with a meet-record 47-6 1/2 at the 28th annual South Jersey Invitational at Delsea.
Whitaker’s mark, No. 1 in New Jersey this year, is also the best by any New Jersey sophomore in eight years, since Dominique Irons of Haddon Heights set the state sophomore record of 48-4 at the 2011 Meet of Champions.
Whitaker’s previous PR was a 45-10 3/4 from last year’s New Balance Nationals.
Whitaker broke the meet record of 46-11 3/4, set in 2009 by Camden’s Wayne Walls. The triple jump has been held at the South Jersey Invitational since 2008.
