Glassboro’s Christian Hughes wins freshman race at South Jersey Shootout!!!!!!!!

Christian Hughes of Glassboro ran away from the field by nearly half a minute to win the freshman race Saturday at the South Jersey Shootout at DREAM Park in Logan Township.

Hughes ran the 4,000-meter course in 12:49, winning by 120 meters over Kingsway’s Brayden Strockbine, who was 2nd in 13:13, and Shawnee’s Joseph Stapleton, who was 3rd in 13:14.

Also in the top 10 from South Jersey: Kingsway’s James Perrotto [4th in 13:18], Haddon Township’s Ryan Luke [6th in 13:24], Pleasantville’s Brody Bailey [7th in 13:45], Moorestown’s Alexander Gubanov [8th in 14:11], Williamstown’s Chase Ambrose [9th in 14:14] and Clearview’s Jack Hagerman [10th in 14:21].

St. John’s College High School of Washington, D.C., won the freshman team title, 75-80, over Glassboro, followed by Shawnee [84] and Haddonfield [95].

Lucas Clark wins freshman title in first high school race, Cian Sherlock takes 2nd in senior race for Cherry Hill East at Battle of Ocean County Park!!!!!!!!

Lucas Clark won the freshman race and Cian Sherlock was 2nd in the senior race to highlight Cherry Hill East’s performance Friday at the Battle of Ocean County Park.

Clark, in his first high school race, ran the two-mile course in 10:40 and won by 15 seconds, with teammate Jackson Grottini 3rd in 10:56 in his first high school race.

Ryan Wetzel of Hammton placed 10th in the freshman race in 11:19 in his 2nd high school race following a 9th-place finish in the Cherokee Challenge.

Sherlock ran an all-course 5,000-meter best of 15:21 to place 2nd in the senior race. He finished 10-100ths of a second behind Owen James of Ridge, 15:21.07 to 15:21.17.

Also for Cherry Hill East,          took 7th in the senior race in 16:13, Benjamin Dodulik was 5th in the junior race in 16:28 and Adam Fuchs placed 17th in the sophomore race in 17:52.

Bridgeton’s Dylan Benitiz Gonzalez placed 11th in the senior race in 16:18, Seneca’s Jonah Schmitz was 17th in the junior race in 16:59 and Hammonton had Alfred Biggio 13th in the sophomore race in 17:46 and Ryan Wetzel 10th in the freshman race in 11:19.

Addison Weiss paces Cherry Hill East girls with 18:06 for 3rd in junior race at Battle at Ocean County Park!!!!!!!!

Cherry Hill East had five girls place in the top 12 in one of the four class races Friday at the Battle at Ocean County Park in Lakewood.

There are no combined results available, but it looks like Cherry Hill East would have scored 61 points not counting the shorter freshman race.

Addison Weiss, 13th in the Meet of Champions both in XC and the 3,200 last year, ran 18:06 for 3rd place in a junior class race won by Leah Starkey of Ocean Township, whose winning time of 16:03 is fastest ever by a New Jersey girl over 5,000 meters. Her time was 7th-fastest among the three 5,000-meter races.

Ryleigh Budsock placed 8th in the senior race in 19:05, and Kathryn Grottini was 12th in the senior race with a 19:47. East also had Noelle Terry 12th in the sophomore race in 21:22 and Rebecca Tibbetts 26th in the senior race in 21:04.

Austyn Semar placed 5th in the freshman race in 13:09 over two miles.

In the freshman race, Sofia Sparacio from Seneca ran 13:25 and placed 9th, Eastern’s Ella Austino ran 13:39 for 13th, Morgan Nicklaw from Eastern was 18th in 13:54 and Zion Ebiske from Winslow placed 19th in 13:5.

In the junior race, Winslow’s Annabella Cassidy ran 20:01 for 13th place, and in the senior race Seneca’s Jaden Eberman placed 10th in 19:43.

Lehigh’s Will Mrozinski from Paul VI take 2nd, RIder’s Matt McCarron from Cinnaminson 6th at Lafayette Invitational!!!!!!!!

Lehigh junior Will Mrozinski from Paul VI and Rider junior Matt McCarron from Cinnaminson both finished near the front at the Lafayette Invitational Friday in Easton.

Mrozinski placed 2nd in an all-course 8,000-meter best of 25:08 at the Metzger Fields course, and McCarron was 6th in 25:41. McCarron’s previous 8K best was 25:13 at Princeton last October.

Also in the top 20 was NJIT freshman Erik Preisner from Ocean City, who placed 18th in 26:20 in his first collegiate 8K race. His high school teammate, Lafayette sophomore Ethan Buck, finished 16 seconds behind in 21st place.

Lafayette’s Anya Kazemi from Eustace and Ava Severino from Haddon Heights and Rider’s Maddie Dischert from Atlantic City all finish in top 5 at Lafayette Invitational!!!!!!!!

Lafayette junior Anya Kazemi of Bishop Eustace, Rider senior Maddie Dischert from Atlantic City and Lafayette senior Ava Severino from Haddon Heights placed 2nd, 4th and 5th and Friday at the Lafayette Invitational in Easton.

Kazemi ran an all-course lifetime-best 21:44 over 6,000 meters on the Metzger Fields and placed 2nd to Lehigh junior Kaitlyn Highduch, who won the race in 21:33. Dischert ran 22:16 and was Rider’s 2ndfinisher and Severino ran 22:28 and was Lafayette’s 3rd finisher.

Kazemi’s previous 6K best was 21:50 in a meet last November at Lehigh’s south campus course in Bethlehem and Lower Saucon Township.

Rider’s 4th finisher was freshman Ashley Doyle from Delran, who was 12th in 23:03 in her 2nd college race and first 6K.

Lafayette won the team title, 28-47, over Rider, with Lehigh 3rd with 59 points.

Stockton’s Jimmy Clauson from Haddon Township places 3rd at Herb Lorenz Invitational!!!!!!!!

Stockton freshman Jimmy Clauson from Haddon Township placed 3rd – just three seconds out of 1st – in his 2nd collegiate cross country race Friday.

Clauson ran 19:50 over 6,000 meters at the 4th annual Herb Lorenz Invitational on the Mike Walker-designed Green Lane Field course near The College of New Jersey in Ewing. Sophomore teammate Sam Szczepanski won the race in 19:47, and TCNJ freshman Tyler Hurst was 2nd in 19:50.

Clauson opened his season with a 2nd-place finish in the Jersey Pines Challenge in Lakewood, where he covered 6,000 meters 50 seconds slower.

The College of New Jersey went 2-4-5-6-7-(8-9) to win the team title, 24-37, over Stockton with Holy Family of North Philly, Brooklyn and Caldwell 3rd through 5th with 110, 114 and 112 points.

Freshman Will Nelson from Cherry Hill East was TCNJ’s 3rd runner, in 4th place with 20:13. Also for TCNJ, junior Silas Matteson from Cherokee was 6th in 20:27,

The meet honors the memory of masters running star Herb Lorenz, who grew up in Pemberton, competed for TCNJ, taught at Burlington Township for years and coached at several South Jersey high schools, including Burlington Township and Lenape, in a legendary running and coaching career. He died in 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Senior Sarah Rutledge from Egg Harbor, sophomore Madison Pratt from Absegami and sophomore Grace Wojciechowski from Cherokee finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th to lead the Stockton to the team title Friday at the 4th annual Herb Lorenz Invitational in Ewing.

Stockton won 17-48 over host TCNJ, with Holy Family of Northeast Philly [102] edging Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham Park and Caldwell 102-108-112.

Stockton junior Evelynn Austin won the race in 19:26 over 5,000 meters on the Mike Walker-designed Green Lane Fields course. She was followed by Rutledge [19:52], Pratt [19:52] and Wojciechowski [20:12].

Stockton sophomore Paige McCabe of Moorestown [9th in 20:26] and freshman Shaelea Conway of Cherry Hill East [13th in 20:44] also placed in the top 15.

Kingsway’s Katelyn Gallinaro places 1st among over 100 runners in Tri-County Conference batch meet!!!!!!!!!

Kingsway junior Katelyn Gallinaro was the first overall finisher out of over 100 runners from 15 schools in a series of Tri-County Conference dual meets at Marlton Park in Pilesgrove Township, Salem County, just outside Woodstown.

Gallinaro ran an all-course 5,000-meter best 20:21.15 and finished 43 seconds ahead of sophomore teammate Kaitlyn Orazi, who was 2nd overall in 21:04.

Kingsway scored only against Washington Township, winning 15-50.

Led by Bella DeFinis, Dylan Hosty and Devon Gervasi, Haddonfield girls sweep top 10 spots in Colonial Conference batch meet!!!!!!!!

Freshman Bella DeFinis, sophomore Dylan Hosty, junior Devon Gervasi, junior Madison Kelsey, junior Harper Benjamin, junior Saya Sood and junior Molly Mills swept the top seven places and packed within 20 seconds for Haddonfield in a Colonial Conference batch meet Tuesday at West Deptford Park.

DeFinis, in her first high school race, ran 22:02, as did Hosty, in her first race since a 4:40.40 mile in Renton, Wash., last June.

Gervasi ran 22:07, Kelsey 22:17, Benjamin 22:18, Sood 22:21 and Mills 22:22. Also for Haddonfield, junior Penelope Matthews [22:38], junior Grace McCool [22:55] and sophomore Hadley Godwin [22:57] rounded out the top 10 for Haddonfield.

Audubon was led by junior Sophia Rizzo in 11th in 23:03 and West Deptford’s top runner was junior Taylor Sierzega in 15th in 23:27.

Haddonfield soph Connor Brand runs away from field to win Colonial Conference batch meet at West Deptford!!!!!!!!

Haddonfield sophomore Connor Brand ran away with the individual title Tuesday at the Colonial Conference batch meet over 5,000 meters at West Deptford Park.

Brand ran 17:10 and won by about 150 meters over West Deptford junior Lane McClintock, who ran 17:42. Audubon sophomore John Robinson placed 3rd in 18:01.

Haddonfield had five of the first seven finishers, with sophomore Luke Lindner [4th, 18:22], Owen Snyder [5th, 18:24], sophomore Graham Dodson [6th, 18:25] and junior Andrew Blum [7th, 18:26] also in the Bulldogs’ lead group. Freshman Lucas Larson [9th in 18:53] and junior Luke Patterson [10th in 18:58] also finished in the top 10 for Haddonfield.

Also in the top 10 was Woodbury sophomore Elijah Smith [8th in 18:38].
