Ocean City junior Carly Godfrey and sophomore Riley Tolson sped to the 3rd-– and 5th-fastest 1,600 time in Cape May County history at CBA in Middletown Township.
Godfrey and Tolson ran 1-2 in The Winner’s Circle at the Horse Farm 2026 on the Dr. George Sheehan Track, Godfrey in 4:54.32 and Tolson in 4:55.35.
Neither had ever broken 5:02 before.
Their times are No. 3 and 4 in South Jersey this year and No. 17 and 21 on the all-time South Jersey combined 1,600 and converted mile list.
Only Dylan Hosty [4:40.40] and Riley Fayer [4:52.48] have run faster in South Jersey this year.
Godfrey is the No. 7 junior in New Jersey this year and Tolson is the No. 3 sophomore and South Jersey’s fastest 10th-grader since Haddonfield’s Briana Gess ran 4:48.05 in 2015.
Ocean City is only the second South Jersey school with two girls under 4:55 in the same season. In 2021, Haddonfield did it with Sarah Naticchia [4:54.25] and Allison Colflesh [4:54.76]. Ocean City is the only public school in New Jersey with two girls under 4:55 this year.
Godfrey’s previous PR was 5:04.33 at South Jersey Group 3 Sectionals last year at Delsea. Tolson’s was 5:02.96 converted from a 5:04.73 full mile at Ocean Breeze in March.
In a separate race, Cherokee senior Sofia Recinto ran 4:58.95, dropping her PR from 5:01.39 from her win at South Jersey Group 4 Sectionals at Lenape.
