Riley Tolson, Aubrey Bishop, Addison Weiss, Julia Flanagan, Giovanna Mantuano and a historic parade of hot South Jersey 3,200 times at Meet of Champions

The girls 3,200 at the Meet of Champions produced a handful of the fastest times in South Jersey history, and that included performances from girls who weren’t even in the seeded heat.

In a ridiculously fast race – 19 girls under 11 minutes – five South Jersey girls ran 10:45 or faster Wednesday at Pennsauken, and two of them did it out of the unseeded section.

Let’s start with the unseeded heat.

Kingsway junior Aubrey Bishop and Cherry Hill East sophomore Addison Weiss paced the field, Bishop first across the line in 10:42.12 with Weiss 2nd in 10:43.61. They had to do all the work themselves, with nobody else in that race running under 10:49.

Bishop, whose fastest time last year was 12:53, lowered her PR from 10:53.61 at sectionals. Weiss dropped from 10:52.24, also at sectionals. Weiss ran only the 800 as a freshman. She ran only the 1,600 and 3,200 this year.

Bishop’s time is No. 7 in Gloucester County history and Weiss’s is No. 12 on the all-time Camden County list.

In the seeded heat, Ocean City sophomore Riley Tolson ran 10:38.56, Holy Cross senior Julia Flanagan 10:45.18 and Paul VI senior Giovanni Mantuano 10:45.33.

Tolson dropped from 10:39.70 at states and Mantuano from 10:50.93. Flanagan ran 10:29.53 last month at the Burlington County Open.

In all, South Jersey girls took up five of the top 15 places, with Tolson 9th, Bishop 12th, Weiss 13th, Flanagan 14th and Mantuano 15th.

On the all-time South Jersey list, Tolson is now No. 20, Bishop is No. 24, Weiss 28th and Mantuano 31st.

Tolson and Weiss were the 2nd and 3rd sophomores in the Meet of Champions race and Bishop was the No. 4 junior.

This is the deepest 3,200 class in South Jersey history, the first time ever five South Jersey girls have run 10:45 or faster.
