A couple fast 400s Wednesday from Winslow senior Prince Owusu-Twum and St. Augustine senior Marc Maccario, who both ran well under 48 seconds at the Meet of Champions at Pennsauken.
Owusu-Twum placed 5th in 47.46, 7th-fastest in Camden County history and fastest by a Winslow quarter-miler since Reuben McCoy ran 46.77 at the 2004 Meet of Champions at Egg Harbor.
And Maccario ran 47.67, 2nd-fastest on the all-time Atlantic County list, behind only Amir Brock of Egg Harbor, who ran 47.44 at the 2017 state Group 4 meet, also at Egg Harbor.
Owusu-Twum’s PR when the season began was 49.98, so he’s dropped 2 ½ seconds since April. Maccario hadn’t broken 48.8 this year before Wednesday, so he ran a more than a full-second season-best time.
Owusu-Twum’s previous PR was 48.02 from the state Group 3 meet last month at Northern Burlington, and Maccario’s was 48.33 from last year’s Meet of Champions on the same track.
They are ranked 5th and 8th in the state this year and No 1 and 2 in South Jersey. They’re 12th- and 18th-fastest on the all-time Meet of Champions South Jersey performance list.
