What a legendary race Wednesday for Haddonfield’s Dylan Hosty, who not only broke her own New Jersey freshman class record but became the 2nd-fastest half-miler in South Jersey history.
Hosty placed 4th in the fastest Meet of Champions 800 ever with a 2:06.04, fast enough to win the 800 at 46 of the previous 51 Meet of Champions.
She’s the fastest freshman in the U.S. and it looks like she’ll be No. 12 on the World Athletics Under-18 list, although her performance hasn’t been added yet. Her time is 14th-fastest in the U.S., according to the MileSplit national database.
Eastern’s Natalie Dumas, who set the meet-record 2:02.75 last year, won the race in 2:03.46, her fastest time since she set the state record of 2:00.11 last June at West Philly Nationals. Stella Blanchard of the Wilberforce School in Plainsboro was 2nd in a big PR 2:03.64, 6th-fastest in state history and 3rd-fastest in meet history, and former national champ Reagan Moore of Oak Knoll School in Summit was 3rd in 2:05.54, just off her 2:05.47 PR.
The race produced four of the 10-fastest times in meet history and the fastest 2nd-, 3rd– and 4th-place times ever.
Hosty lowered her PR and state freshman record more than two seconds, from 2:08.12, which she ran last month at the Camden County Championships at Haddon Township. Although class record information is incomplete, we found only six freshman girls who have run faster.
The official results show Hosty out in 64.92 and back in 61.12, which is wild.
Hosty broke the Haddonfield school record of 2:07.33 set at the 2009 Meet of Champions in South Plainfield by Olympian Marielle Hall.
Ocean City junior Carly Godfrey placed 6th in 2:10.36, the 2nd-fastest 6th-place time in meet history. Olivia Capala Morris Knolls was 6th in 2:09.92. Godfrey’s time is 10th-fastest in South Jersey history and just off the Cape May County record of 2:09.84 set by Ocean City’s Rachel Stremme at the 2014 Meet of Champions at South Plainfield.
Moorestown sophomore Payton Derer placed 8th in 2:11.37, the fastest 8th-place time in meet history. Derer dropped her PR from 2:11.85 from the state Group 3 meet last month at Northern Burlington. Her time is No. 2 in Burlington County history, behind only a 2:10.55 by Lenape’s Shelby Whetstone. Derer is now up to No. 16 in South Jersey history.
