Missed this one earlier this month, but Syracuse sophomore Jamir Brown from Riverside ran a big wind-legal hurdles PR at a meet in Jacksonville.
Brown placed 2nd in the 110-meter highs in 13.39 into a 1.0 headwind at the Tom Jones Invitational at the University of North Florida’s Hodges Stadium.
His previous PR was 13.49 from a meet at the University of South Florida in Tampa in March.
Brown’s time is 3rd-fastest ever run by a South Jersey hurdler, behind only Olympic bronze medalist Jack Pierce from Woodbury, who ran 12.94 in Atlanta in 1996 in the Olympic Trials semis, and Camden’s Anwar Moore, who ran 13.12 at the 2007 Modesto [Calif] Relays.
His time is No. 2 in Syracuse history behind Jaheem Hayles’ 13.28 in 2023 and No. 7 on the 2026 NCAA Division 1 performance list.
From the World Athletics database, his 13.39 is No. 16 in the world this year and No. 13 among U.S. athletes.
This is Brown’s first year at Syracuse. As a freshman at Rowan, he set NCAA Division 3 records indoors with a 7.72 at Ocean Breeze and 13.60 in the prelims of the NJAC Championships in Ewing. He won the NCAA title outdoors in Geneva, Ohio, with a 13.75.
This past winter, Brown won the ACC title in Boston in the 60-meter highs at 7.58 after a PR 7.56 in the trials. He’ll be the top seed in the 110-meter highs this week at the ACC meet in Louisville.
