Another shot put PR for Atlantic Tech’s Tey’ana Ames, now just 2 1/4 inches from Rutgers school record!!!!!!!!

Rutgers senior Tey’ana Ames from Atlantic County Tech continues to close in on the Rutgers shot put school rcord.

Ames threw a lifetime-best 53-2 ¾ Saturday at the ECAC Championships at her home facility in Piscataway, and she’s now No. 2 in Rutgers history, trailing only Jasmine Van Note of Sayreville, who threw 53-5 at the 2022 Big Ten Championships in Minneapolis.

So Ames is only 2 ¼ inches off the school record.

Ames just threw 50 feet for the first time in January with a 50-8 ¼ at the Ott Center. She improved to 52-9 ¼ in February at the Armory, then 52-9 ½ indoors in Fayetteville, then 53-1 ¾ in Orlando in late March and now 53-2 ¾.

On Saturday, Ames only took three throws, opening with a 51-6 and a 50-9 ¼ before her big 53-2 ¾.

Ames is No. 3 on the all-time South Jersey alumni list and No. 9 on the all-time New Jersey alumni list.
