Lindenwold senior Egypt Bolan, the national high jump champion last spring, recorded the 2nd-highets clearance of her life Saturday and shattered a 14-year-old meet record in the process.
Bolan cleared 5-10 ¼ on her 1st attempt, breaking the meet record of 5-10 set at the 2012 meet by West Deptford’s Megan Kirschling.
When Bolan cleared 5-10 ¾ at Franklin Field in June, she broke Kirschling’s South Jersey record of 5-10 ½ at the 2012 Group 2 meet at South Plainfield.
Bolan was clean at 5-2, 5-4, 5-6, 5-8 and 5-10 and didn’t have any misses until she jumped at what would have been a PR 5-11, a height cleared by only two New Jersey jumpers. Tatiana Smolin of Randolph cleared 5-11 at the 1983 TAC Junior Championships in State College and that stood as the state record for 34 years, until Jenna Rogers of Ridgewood cleared 6-0 ¾ at 2017 Greensboro Nationals.
Bolan is No. 9 nationally, according to the MileSplit national database. She’ll compete Thursday morning at the 130th Penn Relays at Franklin Field, site of her national title 10 months ago.
