On Day 2 of the S.J. Top 50 project, it’s the boys outdoor 200-meter dash all-time top-50 performance list!!!

Our second installment in the South Jersey Top 50 project is the boys 200, with a cut-off of 21.74.

The 200 has experienced a resurgence in recent years, with three of the five fat sub-21:40 times in South Jersey history coming since 2017 after nobody had run sub-21:40 since 2004 and only one sprinter since 1983.

Is anybody missing? Lemme know in the comment’s section!
The boys outdoor 400 is up next. We started yesterday here: Boys Outdoor 100-meter dash

Hey Benny! What meets were these marks run at? I just looked through those years and don’t see them anywhere. Thanks!

Those two Kingsway records were from 1992,also Jeremy Cooper of kingsway was sprinter of the year 1995; he ran 10.4 probably hand timed at the South Jersey Relays individual championship which was always held the Friday at Eastern HS before the relays at Shawnee on Saturday. A few more times for Ben Liles in kingsway record book are 47.8 400. 54.1 400 IH in 1990 and 23’10 1/4 inch long jump from 1992. I was a Kingsway assistant track coach at the time . These may be in an old Ed Grant annual.

Hey Russ – Yeah, I have every Ed Grant annual going back to 1966 and there’s no mention of any of those guys running that fast. I went through every issue from the four years they were in HS.

The winning sprint times at the 1992 South Jersey Invitational at Eastern (I covered that meet every year from its inception in 1992 through 2009, except in 2005, when it wasn’t held) were 10.6 in the 100 by Curtis McIntyre of Bridgeton and 22.0 by Kevin White of Haddon Heights. Ben won the 400 that year in 47.8. Jeremy Cooper won the 100 in fat 10.8 in 1995 and 10.64 in 1997.

Thanks for your help. If you or anyone can specifically find those times I’ll add ’em to the list.

I’m sure you must be correct Roob, the record sheet I have shows Cooper having the time of 10.4 I assumed it was at that meet, may have been a hand timed dual. Anyway it’s great to see you putting this together. It’s a big service to the track and field community. Ed Grant was a real asset and I appreciate you fill that gap especially with no meets to go to now

Yeah, Ed Grant’s annuals kind of got me interested in track and field stats. I wound get so excited when the new annuals came out and study them front to back. At one point I asked him for every issue I didn’t have – every issue from before 1985. He showed up at a meet in Holmdel with two big cartons an I think I made him about $80, so I have almost a complete set now. Glad you’re enjoying the lists! Please be well. Roob
