After a huge double Sunday, Gabriel Moronta is now the only runner on the top-5 on both the state 400 and 800 performance lists.
Moronta won the 400 at South Jersey Group 2 sectionals at the Bubble with an indoor personal-best 49.70 and won the 800 in 1:57.29. Moronta has already run 1:54.59 this winter, just behind Stone Caraccio’s 1:54.53.
The Pleasantville senior is now No. 1 in South Jersey this year in the 400 and No. 4 in the state and No. 2 in South Jersey in the 800 and No. 3 in the state.

Moronta won the 400 Sunday by 16 meters over Shaikyi Hannah of Delsea and lowered his indoor personal best from 50.42 from last year’s state meet, when he placed fourth. Moronta’s outdoor PR is 49.68 from states last spring, so he ran within 2-100ths of a second of that performance as well.
He won the 800 over sophomore teammate Irvin Marable, who ran a personal-best 1:58.89. Marable’s previous PR was 2:00.33 in a meet at Monmouth last month. He’s the No. 5 sophomore in the state.
Moronta and Marable were joined by Xander Roberts and Keon Henry on the winning 1,600-meter relay team, which ran 3:31.00.
With those points from Moronta, Marable and the relay team, Pleasantville finished fourth in team scoring with 38 points, behind only Delsea (89), Haddonfield (64) and Deptford (49).
