Rakim Coyle, a Rowan sophomore from Wildwood Catholic, opened the season with an indoor long jump PR and a win at the Fastrack Invitational at Ocean Breeze.
Coyle jumped 22-8 1/4 on his first jump of the competition — his first jump of the season — and that held up to win the event over Jordan Moorer of St. Francis (N.Y.), who was second with a 22-2 1/2, also on his first jump.
Coyle, from Del Haven, in Middle Township, had four fouls in his series and went 22-3 1/2 on his only other legal jump, so he had the top two jumps of the competition on his only two measured attempts.
Coyle, the New Jersey Athletic Conference champion last spring, has an outdoor PR of 23-8 from the All-Atlantic Region Championships in Cortland, N.Y., last spring. He jumped 23-6 to win the NJAC meet last outdoor season at Stockton.
His previous indoor PR was a 22-5 1/4 from a meet this past February in Ithaca, N.Y.
Coyle was a two-time state Parochial B long jump champion at Wildwood Catholic.
