Seniors Isabella Turner and Claire Hauser and freshman Kate Ruona all finished in the top 5, and the Shawnee girls were the top South Jersey team in the Osprey XC Invitational Friday afternoon.
Shawnee finished behind only Red Bank Catholic, which scored a 33-70 victory. Southern was second with 79 points.
The top five finishers were all from RBC and Shawnee. Maddy Kopec was the overall winner with an 18:35 over the 5,000-meter course at Stockton University in Galloway Township, and Turner was second in 18:49.
Kopec also finished one second and one place ahead of Turner in the XC Meet of Champions at Holmdel last November, Kopec in 15th and Turner in 16th.
Red Bank Catholic freshman Cate DeSousa was third in 19:01 followed by Hauser and Ruona in 19:07 and 19:17.
Sophomore Madison Koveloski and senior Maddy Yeager were Shawnee’s fourth and fifth runners Friday.
Interesting name in Shawnee’s pack is Amanda Demko, a senior sprinter who ran 12.65, 26.22 and 58.66 last spring and is in her first year of XC. She ran 22:31, which is incredible range. Not many girls in the state who can run sub-59 for 400 meters and sub 23 for 5,000 meters.
