Ocean City junior Riley Tolson didn’t just break the DREAM Park course record Saturday, she ran what is believed to be the fastest 5,000 on any course by any South Jersey girl ever. Maybe Michelle Rowen or Dawn Cody or someone from the 1980s or 1990s ran faster in a dual meet or meet whose results have been lost over the years, but I highly doubt it.
But she wasn’t the only girl to run fast Saturday. Two others broke 18 minutes and 15 more ran sub-19, which is remarkable.
In all, 51 girls ran 20:00 or faster in the various sectional races and Bob Kiessling Invitational. South Jersey will send a huge contingent up to Holmdel County Park Saturday for the state meet.
Here’s a look at every girl from a South Jersey school that broke 20 minutes at DREAM Park. Anybody missing? Let me know and I’ll get that fixed immediately!
