Woodstown junior Abby Marino ran the 5th-fastest time in course history Wednesday in winning the Salem County meet and leading the Wolverines to the team title.
Marino won her 2nd straight county title running 18:51 over 5,000 meters at Salem Tech in Manningham Township, her fastest time ever on any 5K course. That’s just 26 seconds off the course record 18:25 set by Wildwood Catholic’s Macie McCracken at a Tri-County Conference batch meet in 2022, the first year the course was used.
Marino’s previous-best all-course 5K was an 18:56 earlier this year in a meet at Stockton University in Galloway Township. She was 2nd to Schalick’s Jordan Hadfield as a freshman before winning last year in 19:59.
Woodstown outscored Schalick, 21-34, to win the team title.
Woodstown placed all five scorers in the top 10, with freshman Reese Madiraca 3rd in 21:55, senior Anabel Schaal 7th in 22:57, senior Lucianna Mannella 8th in 23:08 and junior Kiera Porch 10th in 23:41.
Also in the top 10: Pennsville junior Sawyer Slad [2nd in 21:15], Pennsville freshman Peyton Michel [4th in 21:55], Schalick senior Helen Lillia [5th in 22:24], Schalick sophomore sophomore Emma Wilbur [6th in 22:47] and Pennsville freshman Harper Mulford [9th in 23:38].
