Junior Premier Wynn from Pennsauken ran a 45.27 split on the 2nd leg and Tennessee advanced to the finals on Friday at the NCAA Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
Tennessee ran 3:01.73 and placed 4th in the first heat but advanced to the final as the 2nd-fastest team that didn’t place 1st or 2nd in its race. So the two-fastest non-winners came out of the first race.
The final is scheduled for 7:21 p.m. Friday.
Alexander Osayemi, a true freshman from Clayton, blazed a lifetime-best 44.70 anchor split on Alabama’s 1,600-meter relay.
Alabama placed 3rd in its heat in 3:02.76 but missed advancing to the finals on Friday by less than a second. Alabama had the 11th-fastest time overall and was the 2nd-fastest non-qualifier.
