Big weekend for senior Aidan Taulane, who became Woodstown’s third double sectional winner with a sweep of the weight throws.
Taulane won the discus at the South Jersey Group 1 Sectionals at Lenape with a 159-2 on his 2nd attempt and he PR’d in the shot, winning with a 53-5 on his 5th attempt. He’s the No. 1 seed in both throws at the state Group 1 meet in Somerset May 29-30.
Taulane became Woodstown’s first double winner at sectionals since 2014, when Ta’riq Thomas won the long jump at 22-4 ¼ and the triple jump at 43-3 ¼ in the South Jersey Group 2 meet at Buena.
Woodstown’s other double winner at sectionals was Brendan McDonough, who won the 800 in 1:58.0 and the 1,600 in 4:23.2 in the 2005 Group 2 meet at Egg Harbor.
Taulane’s discus PR is a 164-7 from the Woodbury Relays. He’s No. 10 in New Jersey in the discus and No. 15 in the shot put.
Looks like Taulane is 5th on the all-time Salem County list in the discus and 6th in the shot put and Woodstown’s school record holder in both.
He’s Woodstown’s first sectional shot put champion since Jaquan Solomon won Group 1 with a 47-9 ¼ in 2016 and appears to be the Wolverine’s first sectional discus winner ever.
