Pemberton senior Jaden Goins ran the fastest 100 by a Pemberton sprinter in 33 years and moved into the all-time Burlington County top-12 Saturday at the Burlington County Open at Lenape.
Goins won the 100 in 10.76, becoming the first Pemberton sprinter to win the 100 at the County Open in 17 years, since Jashuan Spady ran 11.04 to win the 2009 race at Maple Shade.
Goins’ 10.76 is fastest by a Pemberton runner since Bobby Orro won the 1993 Meet of Champions in 10.66 at South Plainfield.
All this comes with the caveat that unfortunately there was on wind gauge at the meet, so none of the sprint or horizontal jump marks will count for record purposes. Why meets continue to operate without this basic piece of track and field equipment to ratify elite marks is a great question. It’s not fair to the kids, and that’s who these meets should be about.
Goins also PR’d in the 200 at 21.96, although that won’t count either. His wind-legal PRs are 11.06 with a 1.8 wind reading at last year’s South Jersey Group 2 meet at Delsea and 21.97 indoors at Ocean Breeze.
