Isabella Alvarez, a rising sophomore at Pleasantville, won a national age-group heptathlon title at the AAU National Junior Olympic Championships near Houston.
Alvarez, who won the hurdles and shot put at the state Group 2 meet in South Plainfield and also placed in the high jump and long jump, scored 4,824 points to win the 15-16-year-old heptathlon at Humble (Texas) High School.
She had the top marks in the high jump, shot put and javelin and won by 453 points.
On Day 1, Alvarez ran 15.28 in the 100-meter hurdles for 805 points, high jumped 5-5 for 795 points, threw the shot 36-10 ¼ for 610 points and ran 27.02 in the 200 for 710 points.
On Day 2, she long jumped 17-7 ¼ for 663 points, threw the javelin 118-1 for 591 points and ran the 800 in 2:33.44 for 650 points.
She set PRs in the 200, javelin and 800. Her previous PRs were 27.08, 114-10 and 2:35.35.
Alvarez also tied for 3rd in the high jump with a 5-5 clearance on her 1st attempt.
