Winslow Township junior Brook-lynn Roberts moved into the all-time New Jersey top 20 in the discus Thursday night at the South Jersey Elite at Delsea.

Roberts, who came into the day with a lifetime-best 137-0 from her win at South Jersey Group 3 sectionals last June, also at Delsea, hit two of the longest throws in South Jersey history with a 146-11 on her 2nd attempt and then a 147-1 on her final throw.

That’s No. 2 in South Jersey history by an underclassman. Jessica Woodard, 5th in the 2022 World Championships in the shot put, threw 151-10 to win the 2012 Meet of Champions at Old Bridge as a junior at Cherokee.

It’s also No. 2 in Camden County history and the best throw by a Camden County girl in 35 years, since Tisha Kerrin of Eastern threw 153-6 (at a meet that I’ve never been able to identify).

It’s No. 14 among juniors in the U.S. this spring, according to the MileSplit national database. It’s No. 19 in New Jersey history.

Roberts actually tied her PR of 137-0 on her first throw. After her 146-11, she threw 125-3, then fouled, then hit 124-10 before closing with the 147-1.

Roberts moved into No. 7 in South Jersey history with the best throw by a South Jersey girl in 11 years, since Kingsway’s Tara Daniels threw 149-3 at South Jersey Group 3 sectionals at Buena and Woodard 168-10 at USATF Juniors in Des Moines, Iowa.

Roberts also threw a PR 40-3 3/4 to win the shot put. Washington Township junior Ella Kara also hit 40 feet for the first time with a 40-0 for 2nd place.

Glassboro’s Sunsarai Moore and Delsea’s Hannah Nuhfer, the top two sophomores in New Jersey, placed 2nd and 3rd, Moore with a PR 136-11 and Nuhfer PR 130-3.

Moore and Nuhfer are now No. 8 and 10 in Gloucester County history. Moore’s previous PR was 130-4 at the Woodbury Relays two weeks ago, and Nuhfer’s was 115-3 at the Delsea Crusader Field Meet last weekend. They are the No. 1 and 3 sophomores in Gloucester County history. Delsea’s Jen Frank hit 130-11 to win the 2005 South Jersey Group 3 meet at Egg Harbor.

Moore threw 119-8 and fouled on her first two attempts before finishing strong – 136-11, 125-8, 123-8, 130-1. Nuhfer opened with a PR 119-11, then hit 130-3 on her 2nd throw and added a 129-2 on her 3rd.

Delsea senior Morgan Mankoski PR’d at 125-1 for 4th place on her final attempt, and Williamstown senior Iriona Gravley threw 124-1 twice. Mankoski’s previous PR was 118-4 at the Delsea Crusader Field Meet last weekend, and Gravley – a 1st-year thrower – had a PR of 108-7 from Woodbury. She had never reached 90 feet until two weeks ago and now she’s No. 3 in New Jersey Group 4.
