Ajani Dwyer finished one of the fastest doubles in state history with a lifetime-best time in the 200 after winning the 100 with the 6th-fastest time in state history Thursday night at the South Jersey Elite at Delsea.
Dwyer, who won the 100 in 10.38, won the 200 in 21.22, with the first 10 finishers all running personal bests. Delsea’s Julian Conigliaro ran 21.63 for 2nd. Both of Dwyer’s races were wind-legal.
Dwyer’s previous outdoor 200 PR was 21.47 at West Philly Nationals in June, but he ran 21.25 indoors at Ocean Breeze this past February, a South Jersey indoor record and No. 5 in state history.
Dwyer’s 21.22 is tied for No. 12 in state history and No. 5 in South Jersey history.
Dwyer is now one of only five sprinters in New Jersey history to run at least 10.40 and 21.25 and only the 3rd to do it at the same meet.
Danny Johnson of Rahway ran 10.30 and 20.93 at the 2001 Meet of Champions in South Plainfield, and Malachi James of Burlington City ran 10.40 and 21.13 at the USATF New York Youth Challenge Series Opener at Icahn Stadium last month.
