Pennsauken sophomore Sianni Wynn turned in one of the greatest sprinting performances in state history Sunday morning with a record-setting win in the Meet of Champions 55-meter dash at Ocean Breeze.
Wynn won the race in 6.81, the fastest time by a New Jersey sprinter in 39 years and 3rd-fastest in state history. It’s also No. 5 in the U.S. this year, according to the MileSplit national database
And it’s the fastest time ever by a New Jersey girl in a high school race.

Wynn began the day with a PR of 7.00 from her win at last year’s Meet of Champions and lowered that to 6.93 leading all qualifiers in the trials earlier Sunday.
In the final, she outraced Union Catholic junior Taylor Cox, who ran 6.90, also under the previous meet record of 6.92 set by Montclair Immaculate’s Dominique Booker at the Bubble in 2009.
Timber Creek senior Naylah Jones ran 6.95 for 3rd place, the 8th-fastest time in meet history.
The only girls in state history to run faster than Wynn are legendary Michelle Glover of Willingboro, who ran 6.73 against a world-class field at the 1981 Dallas Times Herald Invitational, at Reunion Arena and Trenton’s Wenda Vereen, who ran 6.79 – also against a world-class field – in the 1984 U.S. Championships at Madison Square Garden.
The fastest previous 55 time by a New Jersey sprinter in a high school-only race was a 6.84 by Myasia Jacobs of Paramus Catholic to win 2011 Easterns at the Armory.
Wynn broke the Camden County record of 6.88 set in 1979 by Patti Dunlap in the trials of the AAU Nationals at Madison Sqquare Garden.
