Egg Harbor’s Isabella Leak ran a massive 5,000 PR Friday evening at Princeton and moved into the all-time Monmouth top-10.
Leak, a junior at Monmouth, placed 5th in the 5,000 at the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton’s Weaver Stadium in 17:32.96.
That’s No. 8 in Monmouth history and fastest by a South Jersey woman at Monmouth since Katina Alexander from Pleasantville ran 17:29.23 at the 2006 Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif.
Leak’s 5,000 PR was an 18:36.13 in a race in March of last year on her home track in West Long Branch. She hadn’t run one since. This was only her third lifetime track 5,000.
Leak finished just behind sophomore teammate Marisa Kilgarriff, who ran 17:29.14. Leak closed in 78.24 and nearly caught Kilgarriff, a Council Rock South graduate and Coastal Carolina transfer who’s No. 7 in Monmouth history with her 17:22.70 from a meet in Fairfax, Va., last weekend.
