Yashaya Brown blazes to #4 time in state history in 60 hurdles trials at Boston Nationals!!!!!!

Washington Township junior Yashaya Brown ran the 4th-fastest 60-meter hurdles time in state history Saturday in the prelims at Boston Nationals in Brighton, Mass.

Brown posted the 3rd-fastest time with his 7.80 in the 2nd of seven qualifying rounds. That’s No. 3 in the U.S. this year and fastest by an underclassman.

It’s also 2nd-fastest in state (or Gloucester County) history by a junior, behind Delsea’s Sultan Tucker’s 7.76 in the finals at 1996 Nationals across town at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Sincere Rhea of St. Augustine set the South Jersey record of 7.64 in the prelims at Armory Nationals (the same meet) in 2019. East Orange’s Cory Poole set the state record of 7.63 at Armory Nationals in 2017.

Brown had only run one previous race over the 60-meter hurdles and ran 8.89 at Ocean Breeze Nationals (different meet) last year.

The semis are scheduled for 9:25 a.m. Sunday and the final is scheduled for 12:26 p.m. Sunday.
