Cinnaminson senior Matt McCarron, junior Joseph Saint Elien and seniors Derek Coceano and Alex Boyko placed 7th in the distance medley at New York Nationals Friday with the 9th-fastest time in South Jersey history.
McCarron led off with a 3:11.29 split for the 1,200, Saint Elien ran 51.34 for the 400, Coceano covered the 800 leg in 1:58.89 and Boyko anchored in 4:20.29.
That’s fastest by a South Jerey school in seven years, since Haddonfield ran 10:12.42 at 2016 Armory Nationals (the same meet as this year’s Boston Nationals).
It’s fastest by a Burlington County DMR in 21 years, since Cherokee ran 10:16.32 at 2002 Easterns at Princeton’s Jadwin Gym with the team of Josh Joseph [3:07.2], Sean Meyers [50.9], Kevin Hurley [2:01.8] and Marc Pelerin [4:16.3]. That stood as the South Jersey record for eight years.
Cinnaminson’s previous-best time was a 10:42.61 at the Group 2 state relays in January at the Bubble. Before this year, their school record was 10:50.55 last year at the state relays.
In the same race, Haddon Heights ran 10:35.94 for 9th place. Colin Patterson led off in 3:13.40, Matthew Iuvara split 51.59 for the 400, Jonathan Hastings ran the 800 in 2:05.25 and Jack Bolling anchored in 4:25.71.
Heights broke its school record of 10:39.87 from 2009 at 2009 Boston Nationals (which was a different meet than this one and held at a different track in Boston).
