Senior Nick Scarangelli and junior Matt Hoffman finished 1-2 to lead Ocean City to its 4th straight Cape-Atlantic Conference Championship title Tuesday.
Scarangelli ran 16:18 and Hoffman 16:37 over 5,000 meters at Stockton University in Galloway Township and recorded the first 1-2 CAL finish since 2015, when Ocean City’s Patrick Cusack and Even Schmeizer went 1-2 in Ocean City’s win at Motorports Park in Millville.
Ocean City went 1-2-6-7-10, placing all five scorers in the top-10 and outscoring the field, 26-29.
Atlantic County Tech of Mays Landing placed second with 109 points, edging Mainland [127] and Atlantic City [132].
For the Red Raiders, senior Chris Sardy took 6th and sophomore Ethan Buck 7th, both in 17:13, and sophomore Kal Heyman ran 10th in 17:43.
Ocean City’s 6th and 7th runners both broke 18 minutes as well, senior Colin Abbott 13th and sophomore Sam Ritti 14th, both in 17:58. The Raiders had seven across the line before any other school had three across the line.
Cedar Creek junior Matthew Winterbottom ran 16:43 and edged Atlantic City senior Adonis Hernandez for 3rd. Hernandez ran 16:51 for 4th.
Also in the top 10 were Lower Cape May senior Jack Cura [5th in 17:03], Holy Spirit senior John Flammer [8th in 17:15] and Mainland senior Elliot Post [9th in 17:24].
Atlantic County Tech placed second as a team without a runner in the top 10. Senior Joseph Spilker ran 17:53 for 11th, and sophomore Thomas Wodajak and junior Shawn Tamanini placed 20th and 21st in 18:32 and 18:32.
