From the Backstretch by Reuben Frank

Back in February of 1986, my first year at the Burlington County Times, I decided to go up to Princeton to check out this Eastern States Interscholastic Championships at Jadwin Gym to see what all the fuss was.

After an evening watching legends like William Reed, John Troutman, Kenny Reynolds, Dewey Sanders and Terrance Ferguson, I was hooked.

I was impressed with the meet program, which contained an all-time top-10 performance list, and it’s from that list 36 years ago that I began keeping an all-time Easterns list of my own. Over the years I researched the meet, spent hours at the state library in Trenton digging up old results from the Star Ledger, added marks, corrected marks and put together a much deeper list.

With the 87th annual Easterns scheduled to start at 4 p.m. today at the Armory, here is my all-time top-10 list for every event, including retired events.

I’ll post the girls list a little later this morning.
