Kyle Rakitis distance triple leads Kingsway to 5th indoor sectional title!!!

Senior Kyle Rakitis turned in a fast distance triple to lead Kingsway to its fifth indoor sectional title but first since 2015.

Rakitis won the 800 in 1:59.23, the 1,600 in 4:28.83 and the 3,200 in 9:38.74, and Kingsway scored 70 points, topping Southern (45), Rancocas Valley (37) and Washington Township (35) to win the South Jersey Group 4 championship at the Bubble in Toms River.

The title is Kingsway’s first in Group 4. The Dragons won South Jersey Group 3 in 2009, 2013, 2014 and 2015.

The only South Jersey boys programs with more titles since the inception of indoor sectionals in 2008 are Willingboro (9), Delsea (6), Egg Harbor (6) and Highland (6).

Kingsway scored 70 points with just five athletes – Rakitis, seniors Jeffrey Heineman and Evan Corcoran, junior Damon Dukes Jr. and sophomore Benny Liles Jr. All the Dragons’ points came on the track.

Heineman, Corcoran, Dukes Jr. and Liles Jr. put an exclamation point on the team title by winning the 1,600-meter relay in 3:30.25.

Also, Heineman placed 3rd in the 800 in 2:01.30 and 4th in the 400 in 52.97, Corcoran ran a PR 6.60 for 3rd in the 55 and another PR 52.90 for 3rd in the 400 and Dukes Jr. ran a PR 6.56 for 2nd in the 55.
