Millville and Winslow ran the two-fastest 800-meter relay times in the state Saturday at the Hispanic Games at the Armory.

Millville ran a New Jersey No. 1 1:42.49 for third in the final, and Winslow Township ran 1:42.59 in the trials.

Senior Zaniah Bowman, sophomore Leah Ellis and senior Ciera Bowman ran the first three legs for Millville, and sophomore Bryanna Craig capped a terrific day by anchoring in 24.8. She had PR’d in the hurdles with a 8.34 and won the high jump with an indoor 5-6.

Winslow ran a little slower in the final, taking fourth in 1:43.27, but the 1:42.59 in the trials is No. 2 in the state this year.

Senior Janeya Hammond, sophomore Jaia James, senior Nylah Perry and sophomore Aiala Smith-Barnes ran for Winslow.

Both times are in the all-time South Jersey top 20. Millville missed the Cumberland County record of 1:42.08 it set last year by less than half a second. For Winslow, this is the fourth year in a row they’ve been well under 1:43.

Marco Morales of Delsea broke the South Jersey indoor pole vault record Saturday with a 15-7 clearance at the Ocean Breeze Freedom Games in Staten Island, N.Y.

The previous record of 15-6 was shared by Morales, twin brother Nico Morales of Delsea from last year and Dan Batdorf of West Deptford in 2008.

Marco Morales had just cleared 15-6 indoors for the first time two weeks ago at the Armory. That’s also his outdoor PR from the South Jersey Invitational.

Nico Morales cleared 15-0 to place second in his season debut. He had tied Batdorf’s South Jersey indoor record last year at the state relays at the Bennett Center.

Th only superior jump indoors or out by a South Jersey vaulter belongs to Bob Green of Haddon Heights, who cleared 16-0 outdoors in 1992.

Morales now ranks No. 8 on the all-time state indoor list, and he’s No. 2 in New Jersey this year, behind Bradley Jelmert of Watchung Hills, who cleared an all-time New Jersey No. 2 16-7 1/4 at the Somerset County Championships at Lehigh’s Rauch Fieldhouse in Bethlehem, Pa., last weekend. The indoor state record is 17-0 by Bill Lange of Bridgewater East in 1980.

According to the U.S. MileSplit national rankings, Jelmert is No. 1 this season and Morales is No. 7.

Pleasantville’s Gabriel Moronta ran the fastest 600 by a South Jersey runner in 10 years Saturday, winning the three-lapper at the Ocean Breeze Freedom Games.

Moronta ran 1:20.90, which is like running a 400 in 53.9 on an indoor track and then maintaining that same pace for another lap.

Moronta won by 25 meters over Luke Roberts of Ridge High in Basking Ridge.

His time is No. 3 in South Jersey history and breaks the Atlantic County record (and school record) of 1:21.20, set in 2012 by Isaac Clark of Pleasantvile at the 2012 Bishop Loughlin Games at the Armory.

Moronta’s previous PR was a 1:22.01 last month also at Ocean Breeze.

His time is No. 1 in New Jersey this year and No. 3 nationally, according to the Milesplit national database.

He trails only Darius Kipyego of St. Raphael Academy in Pawtucket, R.I., who ran 1:19.65 at the Boston Holiday Challenge last month at the Reggie Lewis Center, and Joshua Peron of Frontier High in Hamburg, N.Y., who ran 1:20.84 at the New York Celebration Track Classic at Houghton (N.Y.) College, also on Saturday.

The only faster times in South Jersey history belong to Rob Novak of Bordentown, who ran 1:19.6 in 2005, and Keith Griffith of Florence, who ran 1:20.71 in 2010.

Novak ran his 1:19.6 at the 2005 Varsity Classic at the Armory, where he finished second to Shaquon Brown of JFK Patterson. Brown set a national record of 1:18.88 in that race. Griffith ran his 1:20.71 at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational, also at the Armory. He placed third in that race behind Michael Quercia of Marcellus (N.Y.) (1:19.37) and Randy Patterson of Newburgh (N.Y.) Free Academy (1:19.72).

Moronta has already run 1:54.59 in the 800 this season, No. 1 in New Jersey and No. 2 nationally, behind only Kipyego, who ran 1:52.55 in a meet at Boston College last month.

Keven Kevelier unleashed the No. 10 indoor triple jump in South Jersey history Saturday, and he did it in his first career indoor triple jump competition.

Kevelier, a Collingswood senior, has competed in indoor track in the past but only in the high jump and occasionally as a sprinter.

Kevelier jumped 44-11 to win the triple jump at Ocean Breeze Freedom Games in Staten Island, N.Y.

Amuchin Timbo of Bishop Hendricken in Warwick, R.I., placed second with a 44-7 1/2 jump.

Outdoors, Kevelier jumped 47-5 1/4 last year and placed fifth at the Meet of Champs.

Rancocas Valley moved within a fraction of a second of the all-time Burlington County indoor top-10 in th 800-meter relay with a 1:31.92 Saturday at the Ocean Breeze Freedom Games in Staten Island.

R.V. ran 1:34.20 in the trials before taking third in the final behind Freedom High of Woodbridge, Va.(1:29.13) and Henry Wise of Upper Marlboro, Md. (1:31.62)

Junior Isaiah Arzu, senior Miekel House, sophomore Masai Byrd and junior James McGhee ran for R.V.

R.V’s time is No. 7 in the state this year and No. 2 in South Jersey behind Paul VI’s 1:31.82 at the Armory last month.

Stone Caraccio ran 4:18.25 for the full mile and won the invitational section of the race at the Hispanic Games Saturday at the Armory.

Caraccio, a Kingsway senior, move into the No. 15 spot on the all-time South Jersey mile list, including converted 1,600 times. His time is No. 4 in Gloucester County history.

Caraccio broke the Kingsway school record of 4:19.03, set in 2014 by Noah Culbreath at the South Jersey Group 3 sectionals at the Bennett Center.

Pedro Bravo of Iona Prep in New Rochelle, N.Y., was the only other runner under 4:20. He was second in 4:19.34.

The race went out very slow, with six runners coming through between 2:15 and 2:16 before things finally picked up.

Caraccio was out in 67.7 and 67.7 for his first two 400s but closed in 32.7, 31.7, 30.6 and 27.7 for final 400s of 64.4 and 58.3.

Caraccio’s previous PR was 4:19.09 last year at Group 3 states.

I put together a list of all South Jersey sub-4:20 milers, includes converted 1,600s. That violates the track and field stats rule that says you can’t convert a time up. But I did it anyway just for the sake of comparison, since actual full miles aren’t run that often on the high school level.

Millville sophomore Bryanna Craig and Paul VI senior Aliya Rae Garozzo ran the two-fastest times in South Jersey this year in the 55-meter hurdles Saturday at the Hispanic Games.

Craig and Garozzo both ran 8.34, with Craig edging Garozzo by 1-1000th of a second for second place at the Armory.

Adaobi Tagugbo of Reservoir High in Fulton, Md., won the race in 8.13, No. 9 nationally according to the Mile Split database.

For Craig, the national scholastic heptathlon champion last year and U.S. freshman record holder, the 8.34 is a big PR. She ran 8.46 earlier this year at the Demarest Invitational last month at the Bennett Center.

Her time is second-fastest in Cumberland County history behind former teammate Malea Broome, who ran 8.24 last year when she was second at the Meet of Champions.

Garozzo ran 8.29 last year as a junior when she placed fifth at the Meet of Champions. She went on to run 14.15 outdoors and win the state Parochial A title.

Craig and Garozzo are tied for the No. 2 spot in New Jersey this year, behind only Jenna Chan of West Essex High in North Caldwell, who ran 8.33 at Ocean Breeze last month.

Allison Pierontoni’s sub-2:20 anchor split led the Kingsway girls to the No. 2 sprint medley time in the state this indoor season Friday.

Pierontoni split 2:19.99 and Kingsway ran 4:17.96 to win the sprint medley at the Hispanic Games at the 168th street Armory in New York.

The only faster time so far this indoor season by a New Jersey school is Union Catholic’s 4:16.32 at the Catholic Track Conference Relays last week on the same track.

Skye Robinson led off with a 62.1 for Kingsway, and Elise Daniel and Vianna Scott ran the 200s to set up Pierontoni.

Kingsway finished nearly two seconds ahead of second-place Newburgh (N.Y.) Free Academy, which ran 4:19.87.
