Malachi James, a 14-year-old from Willingboro, posted the fastest qualifying times in the 100- and 200-meter dashes in his age group at the AAU Junior Olympic Games this week in Florida.
James ran 22.72 to lead all qualifiers in the 200-meter dash in the 14-year-old age group on Wednesday afternoon and then ran 11.25 into a 1.6-meters-per-second wind to lead all qualifiers in the 100-meter dash on Thursday morning. The next-fastest times among the eight qualifiers for the finals were 11.45 and 23.05.
James, a rising 9th-grader, is scheduled to run in the 200 final on Friday and the 100 final on Saturday. The meet is being held at Satellite High School in Satellite Beach, Fla.
