Rancocas Valley grad Erika Kemp runs all-time U.S. #17 5,000 meters in Boston!!!!!

Rancocas Valley graduate Erika Kemp moved into the all-time U.S. top-20 in the indoor 5,000-meter run over the weekend in Boston.

Kemp, a Rancocas Valley graduate and six-time All-America at North Carolina State, ran 15:14.76 in the LastChance Invitational on Boston University’s banked 200-meter track, No. 17 in U.S. indoor history, No. 45 on the all-time world list, according to the IAAF and No. 13 in the world this year.

Kemp’s previous PR for 5,000 meters was a 15:28.69 set last May at the Stanford Invitational. She had never run a serious indoor 5,000, although she did run 8:58.44 for 3,000 meters, which makes her No. 6 American woman this year.

Her time is second-fastest ever by a New Jersey woman indoors, behind only Marielle Hall’s 15:06.05 at the Armory in 2016.

Kemp ran 4:55.1 pace for 3.1 miles. She was out in 2:24.3 and 2:23.9 for 4:48.2 and then ran her 800s in 2:25.3, 2:26.9, 2:30.1 and 2:30.7 before closing in 71.1 for the final 400 meters and 34.1 for her final 200.
