Egg Harbor’s Gabrielle German had a nice season debut Saturday with a 17-3 3/4 in the long jump.
German, an EHT senior, placed second at the 66th annual Bishop Loughlin Games at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y.
German jumped 17-6 outdoors last spring at the Cape Atlantic Meet, but this appears to be a big indoor PR for her. According to the MileSplit data base, she didn’t jump indoors last year, although she did run 1:01.21 in the 400.
As far as we can tell, German is only the third Atlantic County girl over 17 feet indoors in the last 10 years. Asia Young of Holy Spirit had a best of 18-6 1/2 in 2016, and Claudine Smith of Atlantic City jumped 18-5 last year.
Does anybody know any other Atlantic County girls over 17 feet indoors? Does anybody know what the EHT indoor long jump record is?
The EHT athletics web site lists boys school records but not girls records. Either way, 17-3 is a heck of a nice way to start!
