Kevin Antczak tears up Van Cortlandt with #7 all-time N.J. time, qualifies for Foot Locker Nationals!!!!!

Kevin Antczak is off to San Diego!

Antczak, a senior at Mainland Regional, placed 4th at Foot Locker Northeast Regionals Saturday morning at Van Cortlandt Park in 15:24 to earn a berth in the Foot Loker Nationals next month.

His time is No. 7 all-time at Vinny by a New Jersey runner.

Antczak’s time is second-fastest ever by a South Jersey runner at the legendary Van Cortlandt 5,000-meter course in the Bronx and the fastest since Jason DiJoseph of Paul VI won the 1988 race in 15:17.6.

He’s the first qualifier from Mainland Regional and the second from Atlantic County. Lou Corgliano of Hammonton placed 9th in the 2013 race. The highest previous Mainland finisher was Greg Hughes, who was 17th in 2003.

Antczak placed 16th in last year’s race. He’s the first qualifier from South Jersey since Josh Clark of Highland took 4th in 2016 and the 18th all-time.

Patrick Anderson won the race in 15:17.0. Meet f Champions winner Liam Murphy of Allentown and state Group 3 champ Jack Jennings of Mendham will also represent New Jersey at Foot Locker Nationals. Murphy was 3rd in 15:23.6 and Jennings 5th in 15:30.0.

I’m currently living in Ocean City, NJ and someone pointed me to your site. I love it! Not sure where you got your all time NJ list from but it doesn’t include me! I ran 15:39 to finish 6th overall in 1980. I have the article from the Star Ledger with results if you need Greg Noll, Morris Catholic.

Hey Greg – Thanks for the heads up, sorry for the omission. I’m researching that race right now … it looks like you and Cliff Sheehan from Westfield made it to Kinney Nationals from New Jersey … Did you get to race out there? I’m still looking for the results from 1980 Kinney … I updated the site with your time … 15:39 at Vanny isn’t messing around! … Hope you’re well, thanks again for the note!

Yes, Cliff and I both ran out in San Diego. I probably have the results somewhere, I’ll see if I can find them. I went from the NE regional, probably my best HS race of all time to San Diego, where I ran my worst race of all HS. I finished last as I cramped up really bad after the first mile and limped into the finish. Coincidentally, I live in Ocean City now and my daughter Kayla Noll, had become friends with Eric and Bret Johnson through the OC track team. I always used to kid around with Bret that we had that in common, last place in San Diego.

If I find the results I will send them to you.

Hey, no shame in finishing last at Kinney! It’s an incredible accomplishment just getting there! One of my best friends is Eric Lorenz, who ran at Holy Cross HS and Wake Forest – he was 25th out of 32 and was really disappointed and I had to keep reminding him that 25th in the entire country is pretty darn good!

Was the race at Balboa Park in 1980? We honeymooned in San Diego and I went for a couple runs in that park and i got chills just knowing some of the amazing runners who had run on that course.

I never met Eric but Bret Johnson always seemed like a super nice kid. Guess he’s not a kid anymore!

Hope to meet you at a meet one day when there are meets again! I often announce a lot of the sectionals and states at Egg Harbor and other sites around the state.
