Colin Kane was the second freshman across the line Saturday morning in the Atlantic 10 XC Championships.
Kane, a Delsea graduate now running for St. Joe’s, ran 26:05 on the challenging 8,000-meter course at Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg, Va.
Kane was as far back as 62nd place after coming through 3,000 meters in 9:29.5. He moved up to 40th when he hit 5,000 meters in 16:06 and finished strong, covering the final 3,000 in under 10 minutes.
The only freshman ahead of Kane was La Salle’s Alex Sandras, who finished 3 1/2 seconds ahead of Kane in 20th place.
Kane was St. Joe’s third finisher, behind overall winner Zachary Michon of Robbinsville and Matt Scarpill, who was 9th.
St. Joe’s finished second to La Salle, 53-99, in team scoring, with Fordham third at 104. La Salle and St. Joe’s are ranked 9th and 10th in the NCAA Division 1 Mid-Atlantic Region. Both will race in the Mid-Atlantic Regional a week from Saturday at Lehigh.
