Collingswood junior Keven Kevelier placed sixth in the emerging elite triple jump at the New Balance Nationals Friday with a jump of 46-11.
That’s the No. 2 jump of his career, behind only a 47-5 1/4 last weekend for fifth at the Meet of Champions. He also had a 46-11 at states.
Kevelier had an exceptional series, with five legal jumps of at least 44-7 1/2.
He opened at 45-5 and finished the trials with a 46-4 1/4 and a 46-6 3/4 to advance to the finals, where after an opening foul he jumped 46-1 1/4 and then the 46-11. Those five jumps averaged 46 1 1/2.
Kevelier, the Camden County and Group 2 sectional champ this spring, is the No. 2 underclassman in New Jersey this year, behind only Floyd Whitaker of Highland, who jumped 50-2 1/2 to win the Meet of Champions. Whitaker competes in the Championship triple jump starting at 5 p.m. Saturday.
Kevelier is No. 13 in South Jersey history with that 47-5 1/4.
