Paul VI senior Antonio Tarantino ran a season-best 21.32 to win his second straight state 200-meter dash title at the Parochial A meet Saturday at Franklin Township. He won with a 21.28 at Egg Harbor last spring.
Tarantino, also the state champ indoors this past winter at 55 meters and runner-up Friday in the 100, is the only South Jersey boy to win the Parochial A 200-meter dash in the last 20 years. The last South Jersey sprinter to win it before him was Ryan Oyeda of Holy Spirit, who ran 22.19 in 1997.
He’s the first Paul VI athlete to win a state title in the same event in consecutive years since Matt DeLiso in the discus in 2002 and 2003.
