Buena grad Casey Sturts, a senior at Monmouth, set a personal-best 12-9 1/2 placing third in the pole vault at the ECAC championships this weekend at Boston University.
Sturts passed opening height of 11-9 3/4 and cleared 12-1 1/2 on her second attempt and 12-5 1/2 on her first attempt.
The bar went up to 12-9 1/2, which was above her PR of 12-8 1/4, and she cleared it on her second try.
Sturts missed three attempts at 12-11 1/2, which winner Ashley Bailey of Delaware and Jessica Glynn of Liberty cleared. Bailey got the win for making it on her second attempt, while Glynn cleared on her third.
Sturts’ previous PR came when she won the Metro Atlantic Championships at the Armory last month. That 12-8 1/4 is also her outdoor PR from a meet last spring at Lehigh.
Sturts had a high school PR of 11 feet at Buena from the 2013 Cape-Atlantic championships at Egg Harbor. Her indoor PR in high school was 10-7 from 2013 sectionals at the Bennett Center.
