Delsea’s Burnett annihilates Gloucester County record on way to Meet of Champions triple jump triumph!!!!!

Delsea junior Khaliel Burnett shattered the Gloucester County record on his way to winning the triple jump Saturday at the 39th annual Meet of Champions at Northern Burlington Regional High School in Mansfield.

Burnett jumped 48-9 1/2, winning by seven inches over defending champion Dodley Thermitus of Elizabeth, who jumped 48-2 1/2.

Burnett’s previous PR was 47-5 1/2 at the Gloucester County Championships last month at Delsea.

He broke the Gloucester County record of 48-3 1/4 set in 2009 by Glassboro’s Ryan Chance at Group 1 sectionals on his way to the M-of-C title.

In the 18 years since the triple jump was added to the New Jersey state meet series, Delsea is now the only school with two different winners — Josh Butler in 2006 (48-0) and Burnett.

With Burnett, Butler and Tristan Wilson (47-4 in 2014), Delsea is one of only two New Jersey schools with three triple jumpers at 47-4 or farther. The other is Trenton.
