Thompson, Mirabelli both earn All-America honors at NCAA javelin!!!

Florence’s Curtis Thompson and Holy Cross’s Chris Mirabelli finished seventh and eighth in the javelin Wednesday at the NCAA championships in Eugene, both earning All-America honors.

But it was ultimately a disappointing day for both former South Jersey throwers, with both falling well short of their career highs.

The long-time rivals both had their best throw of the competition on their second throw, Thompson with a 237-9 and Mirabelli with a 235-2.

Thompson, the defending champion and second-place finisher at the Olympic Trials, has a PR of 271-11 and a season best of 243-0. Mirabelli has a season and career best of 251-6.

Thompson is now a three-time All-America. The honor is the first for Mirabelli.
