Salem junior sprinter Jonathan Taylor ran WHAT in the 100?????

Going into the South Jersey Invitational, Jonathan Taylor’s 100-meter dash PR was 11.15. Not bad. Especially for a sophomore. Taylor ran that last spring in the trials of the South Jersey Group 1 at Egg Harbor, then ran 11.21 for fifth in the final.

Unfortunately, that was the end of Taylor’s season. He false started at states and that 11.15 stood as his PR coming into this season. Certainly, 11.15 isn’t too shabby for a sophomore. Taylor was the No. 9 soph at 100 meters in New Jersey last year and No. 5 among South Jersey sprinters.

Then came Thursday night and a performance that made you say … “WHAT?????”

Taylor ran a massive PR of 10.79 in the trials at the South Jersey Invitational — a PR by .36 of a second — and then won the final in 10.73, which means in the span of an hour on the Delsea track, the Salem junior lowered his PR from 11.15 to 10.73.

Or nearly half a second.

That just doesn’t happen.

For the record, the Salem County record is a hand-timed 10.4 set in 1981 by Mike Parker. That converts to a 10.64 with FAT timing. Taylor has the FAT record.

Incredibly, his time in the final made him the No. 6 performer in the history of a meet that’s 24 years old and has featured most of the top South Jersey sprinters of the last quarter century.

Here’s the South Jersey Invitational all-time 100-meter dash performance list, including hand-timed marks converted to fat
