After running the 6th-fastest time in U.S. history in the 55-meter dash, Pennsauken senior Sianni Wynn cemented herself as one of the top high school sprinters in history with the 12th-fastest time in U.S. history in the 200.

Wynn set one state record and tied another at the 57th annual Meet of Champions at Ocean Breeze in Staten Island.

She’s now one of only three girls in U.S. high school track history to run 6.73 or faster in the 55 and 22.31 or faster in the 200. The others are Shawnti Jackson of South High in Granville, N.C., in 2023 [6.67, 22.91 in 2023] and Tamari Davis of Oak Hall in Gainesville, Fla., in 2019 [6.73, 23.24].

She’s also now won more indoor Meet of Champions titles than anybody else in the girls meet’s 47-year history.

The question wasn’t whether she would win two more Meet of Champions titles – that’s nine and counting – but how fast she would go on the super-charged Ocean Breeze track.

She came back to win the 200 by a staggering eight meters over Corbin Raston of West Orange, with Timber Creek senior Ryan Jennings 3rd in 24.47. Raston’s time is 11th-fastest in state history.

Her 23.31 is the 2nd-fastest 200 ever run indoors or outdoors by a South Jersey woman. Dennisha Page of Woodrow Wilson ran 22.39 last spring as a senior at Tennessee at the SEC Championships in Gainesville, Fla.

Wynn broke her own state record in the 200. She ran 23.62 on Feb. 1 at the Ott Center in West Philly.

The previous meet records were Wynn’s 6.81 in the 55 and 24.00 in the 200.

Wynn has competed in nine Meet of Champions events in her career and has won all nine. Her six indoor MoC titles are another record. Columbia middle-distance runner Olivia Baker of Columbia won five in the 400 and 800 from 2011 through 2014, and Giselle Harris of Shabazz won five in the same two events from 1984 through 1986.

Wynn will have the opportunity to compete in three more Meet of Champions before she graduates. With three more individual MoC titles indoors and outdoors, she’ll break the state record for combined MoC wins shared by Baker and Sydney McLaughlin

In one of the greatest distance performances in state history, Northern Burlington senior Liliah Gordon won the Meet of Champions 3,200 with the 3rd-fastest time in state history.

Gordon won in 10:13.41, a South Jersey indoor record and the fastest 3,200 by a South Jersey girl indoors or outdoors in 42 years, since Michelle Rowen of Washington Township ran 10:12.8 for 3,200 meters at the 1983 outdoor South Jersey Group 4 sectionals at Toms River East.

The only New Jersey girls to run faster indoors are Lakeland’s Angelina Perez, who ran 9:53.50 converted from a 9:56.96 at 2022 Armory Nationals and Colts Neck’s Ashley Higginson, who ran 10:13.17 converted from a 10:16.75 two-mile at 2007 Armory Nationals. Perez is the only girl to run faster than Gordon at a Meet of Champions. She ran 10:00.90 to win the 2022 meet.

Gordon broke the South Jersey indoor 3,200 record of 10:15.71 set in 2006 by Ocean City’s Brittany Sedberry. She ran what was then a state record of 10:19.30 over two miles at the Hall of Fame Classic at the Armory. When Sedberry ran that time, she beat Higginson.

She also broke the Burlington County indoor record of 10:23.49 set by Cherokee’s Megan Lacy at the 2011 Armory Nationals over two miles and convergted from 10:27.13. She also surpassed Lacy’s overall indoor-outdoor Burlington County record of 10:22.02 set at the 2012 outdoor Meet of Champions at Old Bridge.

Gordon is the first South Jersey girl to win the 3,200 Meet of Champions since Devin Grisbaum of Ocean City ran 10:45.20 to win the 2015 race at the Bubble. Rowen in 1981 [10:18.9], Bridgeton’s Cathy McGuigan in 1993 [11:21.96], Bishop Eustace’s Ann Klocke in 1996 [10:58.93] and Erin Donohue of Haddonfield in 2001 [10:38.90] also won indoor MoC 3,200s.

Gordon’s time is No. 6 in the U.S. this year.

Gordon placed 2nd in last year’s MoC by 5-100ths of a second. Including cross country, indoors and outdoors, she had placed in the top 8 in seven Meet of Champions races, including two 2nds. But she ran a brilliant tactical race Sunday and that combined with her incredible fitness level made her unbeatable.

She settled in from the start near the front of a large pack that went out very fast – eight girls came through 800 in 2:34 or faster and six came through the 1,600 at 5:14 or faster. But she was content to sit back and not take the lead and let everyone else do the work.

Gordon finally moved into the front on the 10th lap, leading a group of four that had gapped the field. Still running with Gordon with six laps to go were Ocean Township freshman Leah Starkey, the top seed at 10:32.62; Union Catholic sophomore Cayleigh Kaiser, the state Parochial A champ; and Walkill Valley senior Delana Einreinhofer, the state Group 4 champ.

But Gordon put the hammer down on the 14th lap, using a 37.41 to separate from the field. She increased her lead to 15 meters with two laps to go and 30 meters at the bell, ultimately finishing 35 meters ahead of Einreinhofer, who ran 10:20.60 in 2nd. Starkey was 3rd in 10:24.86 and Kaiser 4th in 10:27.01.

Gordon’s official time at 3,000 meters was 9:39.04, which is a South Jersey indoor and overall record. Indoors, Lacy ran 9:53.39 at the 2011 Princeton Invitational at Jadwin Gym and outdoors Haddonfield’s Marielle Hall ran 9:40.23 at the 2010 Penn Relays at Franklin Field.

Coming into the meet, Gordon had a lifetime best of 10:22.20 from last year’s Glenn Loucks Invitational at White Plains High School (hey, that’s my alma mater!) with an indoor PR of 10:26.49 from last year’s MoC.

The Winslow girls ran the 2nd-fastest 4-by-4 in South Jersey history and 5th-fastest in state history Sundy at the Meet of Champions at Ocean Breeze in Staten Island.

All four Winslow runners split 56-point, and the Eagles ran 3:45.89 and placed 2nd to a Central Jersey all-star track factory with the 2nd-fastest time in meet history.

With a listed lineup of freshman Amariah Arango, freshman Adaiah Arango, sophomore Cinniya Robinson and freshman Jasmine Jackson, Willingboro posted the fastest time by a South Jersey 4-by-4 in 22 years.

In 2003, Willingboro ran 3:45.37 with Halimah Bashir, Rhea Mann, Channel Hamilton and Okechi Ogbuokiri to win Armory Nationals and set a state record that stood for 10 years.

The Central Jersey all-star team from Scotch Plains won in 3:45.70 and their time and Winslow’s time were both under the previous meet record of 3:47.27 set by the Scotch Plains school in 2016.

All eight runners on the first two teams ran 56-point. For Winslow, Amariah Arango led off in 56.43, Adaiah Arango split 56.65, Robinson ran 56.59 and Jackson anchored in 56.23.

Winslow broke its own Camden County record of 3:46.87 from last month at Ocean Breeze.

Eastern placed 4th with Adriana Marella, Samantha Osei-Kyei, Jasmine Davies and Natalie Dumas running 3:54.64, Willingboro ran 3:55.71 for 5th with Kaila Speight, Jaden Murry, sophomore Maya Bolden and senior Nester Wea, Moorestown was 7th in 3:58.10 with Sarah Brown, Payton Derer, Lilliana Stack Maya and freshman Hope Edwards and Kingsway placed 8th in 3:59.54 with Jonnelle Lewis, Camryn Stanard, Noemi Haller and Norah Brown.

For Eastern, Dumas anchored in 54.17 after winning the 400 in 53.55. Willingboro’s 2nd runner, listed as Murry, split 57.49. Moorestown anchor Edwards split 58.54, and Kingsway anchor Brown split 59.05.

Delsea junior Matthew Littlehales shattered the South Jersey indoor 1,600 record Sunday morning at the 57th annual Meet of Champions at Ocean Breeze in Staten Island.

Littlehales ran 4:09.37 and placed 2nd to Colts Neck senior Hunter Celkupa, who won in 4:09.21. His time is 3rd-fastest in meet history and fastest ever by an underclassman.

Littlehales’s is No. 15 in state history including converted miles. He broke the South Jersey record of 4:09.96 converted from a 4:11.42 full mile at the 2009 Brooks PR Invitational at the Dempsey Tracvk in Seattle.

The race produced three of the six-fastest times in meet history. Haddonfield junior Luke Andresen placed 3rd in 4:10.82, 3rd-fastest in meet history and 4th-fastest in state history.

Littlehales and Andresen ran the two-fastest times in meet history by underclassmen. The previous fastest time in meet history by a non-senior was a 4:11.04 in 2022 by Delbarton junior Collin Boler.

Cherokee’s Jack Tindall was 9th in 4:14.92, Cherry Hill East senior Brady Bogos was 10th in 4:15.74, Haddonfield senior Bennett Wright placed 11th in 4:16.10, Glassboro senior Ty Blackman ran 4:17.46 for 13th and Haddonfield junior Benjamin Andrus was 14th in 4:17.48.

The race produced seven of the 31-fasatest times in South Jersey history.

Tindall broke the state freshman record of 4:16.96 set by Jackson’s Ryan Rafferty in 2015. Rafferty now coaches Northern Burlington’s Liliah Gordon, who won the girls 3,200 later Sunday.

Littlehales negative-split 2:06.22 / 2:03.15, closing in 58.50 and 27.51. Andresen also negative-split the race, out in 2:06.89 and coming back in 2:03.93, closing in 59.37 and 29.06.

Littlehales came into the race with a PR of 4:15.50 from the state Group 3 meet at the Bubble last weekend. Before that his fastest lifetime 1,600 was a 4:21.71 at last year’s indoor state meet. So he’s dropped about 12 ½ seconds in eight days.

The fastest previous 2nd-place time was Boller’s 4:11.04 in 2022. The fastest previous 3rd-place time was a 4:12.24 by Chatham’s Ryan Beegle in 2023.The race produced the fastest time for place for every place from 2nd through at least 10th.

In South Jersey history, Littlehales is 1st, Andresen 4th, Tindall 10th, Bogos 14th and Wright 18th.

Littlehales broke the Gloucester County record of 4:09.99 converted from a 4:11.45 full mile set by Woodbury’s Peyton Shute at Boston Nationals last year.

Andresen broke the Camden County record of 4:11.89 converted from a 4:13.36 full mile by Haddon Township’s Luke Petela at 2015 Armory Nationals.

Tindall came within just over a second of the Burlington County record of 4:13.68 converted from a 4:15.16 full mile by Cherokee’s Marc Pelerin at the 2001 Bishop Loughlin Games (early in the 2002 season).

Pennsauken’s remarkable Sianni Wynn on Sunday morning raced to a share of a state record that was once thought to be untouchable.

Wynn won the 55-meter dash at the 57th annual Meet of Champions at Ocean Breeze in 6.73, tying the hallowed state record set over 60 yards 41 years ago by Willingboro’s Michelle Glover, racing against a world-class field or professionals and top collegiates at the 1981 Dallas Times Herald Invitational at Reunion Arena.

Her time is 6th-fastest in U.S. scholastic track history.

Earlier Sunday, Wynn ran 6.79 in the trials, matching the 2nd-fastest time in state history. Trenton’s Wenda Vereen ran 6.79 at the 1984 TAC Championships at Madison Square Garden.

Wynn won the Meet of Champions sprint with a 7.00 in 2023, then set the meet record of 6.81 when she won last year, breaking the mark of 6.92 set by Montclair Immaculate’s Dominique Booker in 2009. She broke it with her 6.81 last year and twice more on Sunday.

She’s the first girl to win the MoC 55 three years in a row since Takara Wilks from 2000 through 2002 – for Lincoln in 2000 and Queen of Peace in 2001 and 2002 – and she’ll have a chance at No. 4 next year.

The only other South Jersey girl to win the same event three straight years at an indoor Meet of Champions is Bridgeton’s Melinda Boykin, who was 1st in the shot put in 1996, 1997 and 1998.

Wynn has raced eight times in her high school career in an indoor or outdoor Meet of Champions and won all eight races.

Wynn also won Meet of Champions titles indoors in 2023 [7.00 in 55, 24.48 in 200], outdoors in 2003 [400 in 54.56], indoors in 2024 [6.81 in 55, 24.00 in 200] and outdoors in 2024 [11.36 in 100, 23.34w in 200].

Wynn goes for her 3rd straight Meet of Champions 200 win later Sunday.

Timber Creek senior Ryan Jennings placed 2nd in 6.94, and Winslow junior Olivia Okaro was 6th in 7.16.

Sianni Wynn got the 57th annual Meet of Champions off to an electrifying start Sunday morning with the 2nd-fastest time in state history in the 55-meter dash trials.

The Pennsauken junior, who set a meet of 6.81 in last year’s meet, ran 6.79 to lead all qualifiers into the final later Sunday at Ocean Breeze in Staten Island, N.Y.

The only faster time in state history was record 44 years ago in Dallas, when Willingboro’s Michelle Glover ran 6.73 against a world-class field at the 1981 Dallas Times Herald Invitational at Reunion Arena. Trenton’s Wenda Vereen also ran 6.79 – in the 1984 U.S. Championships at Madison Square Garden.

Her time is fastest in New Jersey in an all-high school race, supplanting her own 6.81 last year at Ocean Breeze. Her previous best this year was a 6.83 at the Ott Center in January.

It’s No. 5 in the U.S. according to the MileSplit national database.

Second-fastest qualifier was Timber Creek senior Ryan Jennings, who ran 6.99 in a different heat. She’s run 6.90 this year, 7th-fastest in state history. Winslow junior Olivia Okara ran a lifetime-best 7.14, the 4th-fastest qualifying time.

East Stroudsburg sophomore Payton Falkenstein, a Burlington Township graduate, won her 1st conference title Saturday at the PSAC Championships.

Falkenstein ran an indoor PR 17:51.68 to win the 5,000 meters at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships at Lehigh’s Rauch Fieldhouse in Bethlehem.

Falkenstein, Slippery Rock junior Ruthie Hughes and Edinboro junior Kate Szep were together in the lead pack much of the race, with Hughes leading and Szep 2nd. Falkenstein moved into 2nd with three laps to go and took the lead for good on the final lap, closing in 34.80.

She finished seven meters ahead of Hughes, who was 2nd in 17:53.16. Szep finished 3rd in 18:02.34.

Falkenstein is East Stroudsburg’s 1st conference champ at 5,000 meters in 32 years, since Jenn Moyer won the 5 and 10K at the 1993 meet.

Her time is No. 8 in school history indoors.

Falkenstein is also No. 8 on the all-time East Stroudsburg outdoor list with her 17:36.93 from a meet this past April at Bucknell. Three spots above her is Northern Burlington graduate Laura Mason, who ran 17:23.24 in 1985 and went on to compete in the 1992 Olympic Trials at 10,000 meters.

Allison Colflesh ran a huge 800 PR Saturday and placed 2nd in the Atlantic 10 Championships in Virginia Beach.

Colflesh, a Haddonfield graduate and Richmond senior, lowered her PR from 2:15.60 in the trials all the way down to 2:12.99, and she finished 2nd to teammate Molly Flanagan, who ran 2:11.97.

Colflesh‘s PR before Friday’s trials was 2:15.66 from an outdoor meet last April in Newport News, Va. Her indoor PR was 2:18.87i n Lexington, Va., in January 2024.

At Haddonfield, Colflesh had PRs of 2:14.77 outdoors from her win at 2021 Group 2 sectionals at Delsea and 2:19.29 indoors from a meet in February of 2020 at Ocean Breeze.

Colflesh’s sister Lindsay, also a senior at Richmond, didn’t make the final but has a PR of 2:12.87 from an outdoor meet in 2023 at Princeton.

Pleasantville’s Gabriel Moronta, a senior at South Florida, won the 400 at the American Conference Championships Saturday in a speedy 46.24.

Moronta led all qualifiers in Friday’s trials with a 46.91 at Birmingham CrossPlex in Alabama before running away from the field in the final.

Moronta just ran an indoor PR and school-record 46.04 earlier this month in a meet in Boston. That’s No. 22 in NCAA Division 1. His outdoor PR is a school-record 45.81 from last year’s American Conference meet in San Antonio.

Moronta also has PRs of 1:49.33 for 800 meters and 51.38 in the intermediates, both while he was competing for Mississippi State.

South Florida is the top seed in the 4-by-4 later Saturday with its school-record 3:07.59 in Boston earlier this month. Moronta is listed as the second leg.
